Beach Road Wines | McLaren Vale

Review by Susannah Marks

We stopped for lunch at Beach Road Wines on a recent trip to the Fleurieu Peninsula and were immediately impressed by the relaxed atmosphere and beautiful setting.

Less than an hourโ€™s drive from Adelaide, Beach Road Wines is family-owned and is one of those wineries that is truly parent-friendly.

Child-friendly cellar door

We received a warm welcome when we arrived, and we made our way to the cellar door. We were pleased to find it was child-friendly with a big toy box which kept the younger members of our group amused for some time.

Meanwhile we did a tasting of their wines – which include Italian varieties such as fiano and primitivo – both of which were given the thumbs-up by our group. You can read more about their wines, some of which have won awards, on their website (details below).

Dining with fabulous vineyard views

Next up was a bite to eat in their back garden. This is a great spot for families and has fabulous vineyard views as well as ample shade. There is a table set up in the shade for children and our littlies were kept busy with games and pencils and paper while we checked out the lunch menu.

gelati

Beach Road are known for their wood-fired pizzas – including a gluten-free option – and they also have a childrenโ€™s menu of pizza, juice and gelati.

We gobbled up several of their pizzas and were particularly impressed with the prosciutto, pear and gorgonzola pizza and the almond and feta salad. The selection of gelati was a big hit with the children.

With highchairs, and a large bathroom, Beach Road Wines was baby-friendly too.

They are open for lunch Thursdays through to Mondays from midday (as at March 2016) and they also run regular โ€œPizza & Vinoโ€ and โ€œSaturday Nights At the Beachโ€ events. They recommend booking ahead.

We will certainly be returning.

About Susannah: Iโ€™m a mum to three boys and a little girl and I am learning to embrace the chaos. I love my morning coffee, exercise, cranking up some good tunes on the stereo, and heading away to new places on holiday. Originally from New Zealand, I now call Adelaide home and I love getting out and about and exploring all the fabulous things for families to do in Adelaide.
