Bird Tags

If you are walking around the city of Adelaide keep an eye out for the Bird Tags!

Scattered across the city, the Bird Tags are an exciting way to discover and learn more about Birds in the City. See how many Bird Tags you can find and use the QR code to learn how to identify these bird species, listen to their calls and learn about their habitat as you travel throughout our city on this self-guided walk.

Rundle Mall Pigeon Workshop

The City of Adelaide invites you to join artist Paul Sloan, the creator behind the iconic work of art ‘Pigeon’, for a drawing workshop in the middle of the city. During the Pigeon workshop you will hear about why Paul chose pigeons to be the subject of his sculpture and explore the world of pigeons by learning drawing skills.

This workshop is aimed at children between the ages of 8-14. There will be two 45-minute workshops, the first at 10.30am and second at 11.30 am. Meet in at the Pigeon sculpture at the corner of Gawler place and Rundle Mall.

Karrawirra Pari Immersive Experience

Experience the journey and stories, see, and hear nature as it used to be, learn more about the heritage, culture and history of Karrawirra Pari. Enjoy, bird calls, songs and visual features sharing aspects of this important waterway through time, across cultures and as its natural features evolves with the modern urban city of today.

Experience all this using augmented reality, where your mobile device becomes a lens into another world. Find the Karrawirra Pari immersive experience symbol on one of the five locations surrounding Tarntanya Wama (Elder Park) and activate the digital immersive experience. Download the app and check the map where all the other locations are located.

Bird Collage Creations

Come and imagine an Australia you may not know in a bird-making workshop with the author and illustrator of ‘What’s Out There?’ Nicole Stewart.

Listen to a story of Australia’s incredible past and imagine the birds that once lived here – and then create a bird of your own imagining. Using all sorts of collage material make, your own piece of bird art to take home.

Bird’s Eye View Photography Workshops

Discover the science and creativity of nature photography with professional wildlife photographer and Nature Photographer of the Year 2021 finalist Craig Greer who will take you under-his-wing to learn some tips and tricks for photographing our fine feathered friends, the noble pigeon!

This hands-on workshop includes a FREE guided tour of the Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year exhibition, followed by a guided photography session with Craig on the Museum’s front lawns.

Birds in art sketch tour with Paul Sloan

Engage your creative mind on a sketch tour with artist Paul Sloan, the creator behind Rundle Malls ‘Pigeon’. Sloan will share his exploration of themes connected with birds, navigation, history and the natural world. While exploring works in the collection create your own bird inspired drawing during this insightful tour.
