Blanc de Blanc Encore – Adelaide Fringe 2020 Review
by Cath Leo
★★★★★ 5 Stars for breathtaking brilliance
Oh my – this photo captures it all! Blanc de Blanc Encore is a feast of flirty, Frenchy flair that filled the Fortuna Spiegeltent in the Garden of Unearthly Delights with glitzy glamour and cheers aplenty.
The 120 minutes show was continuously awe-inspiring with their acrobatics, hilarious hosting by Felix Pouliet and Remi Martin Lenz who take grape throwing (& catching) to new levels, and sensuous songs. Light trickery kept us discovering action in all corners of the beautiful Spiegeltent, with the odd splash of sparkling wine, and douse of feathers! And the costumes were exquisite… Gee, I need more sparkles in my life!
The aerial duo of Caitlin Marion and Spencer Craig (pictured above, photographed beautifully by Roy Vandervegt) were simply spectacular. This was my first time seeing the hoop with two performers and the choreography as they intertwined above us was breathtaking. Equally the flexible pole used to circle the artists above the audience, and the strength required to climb it or plank outwards from it in a horizontal, bent my mind as much as the pole!
And, well the penile percussion had the audience in hysterics! And I will definitely think of the insanely strong and flexible beyond belief contortionist Uugantuya Otgonbayar at my next yoga class! If she can hold herself above an audience member in a chair, in a handstand with legs behind her head, and then do a vertical push up, well then maybe I can up my downward dog game!
Blanc de Blanc Encore simply couldn’t disappoint! Head there as a couple or a group of friends, fill your glass with bubbly and sit back and enjoy the ride! This is definitely an adults-only affair performed by an incredible troupe of international talent, including Adelaide’s own Melanie Hawkins (pictured far left, below)!
