Bond Store Wallaroo | Yorke Peninsula | Review

The Bond Store Wallaroo

Bond Store Wallaroo is a stylish, family friendly microbrewery, gin distillery and restaurant in the heart of Wallaroo on the Yorke Peninsula.

by Sharon Harrington

We stumbled across this welcoming venue after being caught in the “tropical deluge” storm which recently hit the Yorke Peninsula. While dashing away from the warm summer rain, we couldn’t go past Bond Store’s inviting undercover verandah that is lined with long, wooden tables; perfect for both enjoying the summer weather and sheltering from the rain!

Bond Store produce their own delicious gin and beer on site, along with serving up local produce served tapas-style.

Family friendly venue

The venue is very family friendly, with kids meal options and colouring activities available to keep the kids occupied while the adults have a beverage and share a meal.

Focus on local produce

Once safe from the rain, we ordered a selection of Tapas to share, along with the Karaage (Japanese deep fried) Chicken & Chips from the Kids Menu ($14 as of Jan 2022).  Another kid’s option was a Deep Fried Cauliflower & Chips ($12).

The Spencer Gulf Prawns were marinated in a lemon/lime, burnt grapefruit and chilli sauce and grilled using the venue’s South American style Parilla charcoal grill. They were as delicious as they sound!

The Brazilian style Croquettes and Spanish Seafood, Chicken and Chorizo Paella were also really lovely.

It just happens that another one of the Play & Go team members also visited the Bond Store recently. Here are some of the other dishes they had below. The Prawn Salad was a daily special and totally delicious. The meticulously chopped fine pieces, combined flavours and beautiful presentation was a fine dining experience rivalling any five star restaurant in the city.

The Scotch Fillet above was perfectly cooked, and the kids devoured the Dumplings below.

Gorgeous Copper Still located downstairs

Gin is distilled on site using a stunning copper still affectionately named “Ginger”. She is on display in the funky bar downstairs.

I sampled the Quandong and Blood Orange Gin with tonic and found it delightfully delicious! My husband equally loved his mid-strength “Your Mate” beer.

There are also gin and beer flights available for those wanting try a wider selection of their gins and beers.

Undercover outdoor dining

The lovely verandah area is the perfect spot to sit with children, as there is lots of space to spread out on the long tables.

Casual seating area upstairs

The indoor area of the venue is split over two levels. Upstairs is a more casually designed affair, with big brown leather booths, bar tables and stainless steel brewery tanks as a back drop.

Funky downstairs bar

The downstairs area is a funky bar. It hosts the gorgeous copper still, Moroccan style tiles and tables set in wooden tunnels.

We’d recommend Bond Store Wallaroo as a great location to sample some wonderful locally produced food, gin and beer when visiting the Yorke Peninsula. It’s a surprise find, that you may not expect in a small regional town, with a trendy sophistication you’d normally find on a popular city street. Check them out!
