With my youngest starting school next week we have been reading some books about school. Here are a couple which are favourites of ours.
The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn (illustrated by Ruth E. Harper & Nancy M. Leak)
It’s not hard to see why this book is a New York Times #1 Bestseller. It’s beautifully written and perfect for little ones starting school, kindy or going through any kind of separation from a parent or caregiver.
When Chester Racoon is anxious about starting school, his mother Mrs Racoon shares a little family secret, ‘The Kissing Hand’ to help give him comfort any time he needs reassurance. It may even help some mums get through this emotional time too.

Another favourite is School Bugs by David A. Carter. We love all his pop-up books and are always amazed how clever these interactive books are. What this author can do with paper is so creative and clever. School Bugs show all different aspects of school in an interesting way, which allows for discussion with the child about their own school experience and on what they can expect.
