Find Christmas cheer and joy across the city of Adelaide with sparkling lights, colourful decorations and the arrival of favourite festive characters.
Each night as the sun goes down, the lights turn on in the city. Perhaps the most well-known of all the lights is the magical lighting display on the Giant Christmas Tree in Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga. Under the tree, the Victoria Square fountains illuminate different colours. You can also find a nativity scene, large baubles, illuminated Christmas motifs and festive flower beds here.
The Santa Course
Explore the magical Santa Course. From Rundle Mall and across the City of Adelaide and North Adelaide you’ll find Christmas hats here, bells there, and ten giant Santa Claus everywhere! READ MORE HERE
Christmas Swings
In Rundle Mall look out for the gorgeous Christmas Swings – there’s one near Gawler Place, and another closer to Pulteney Street.
Giant Santa
Over on Federation Hall at the Adelaide Central Market, Giant Santa is reclaiming his place in the city and adding some extra Christmas cheer to the Markets.
Giant LEGO Sleigh
A fan favourite every year, the life-sized sleigh made of LEGO is back and this year it’s calling the Piccadilly Cinema home 6 December 2023 to 7 February 2024. Marvel at the impressive LEGO masterpiece and enjoy the opportunity to take Santa’s reigns and sit on the sleigh.
Adelaide Festive Petunias
Some 5,000 red and white petunias are popping up all over the city for the festive season. You’ll find them blooming in a flower bed at Victoria Square, in potted petunia trees on Flinders, Pirie, Hutt, Halifax, O’Connell and Melbourne Streets, and in planter boxes along King William Street this festive season.
Santa’s Mailboxes
You’ll also be able to post letters to Santa this year at special mailboxes – you’ll find one at North Adelaide Library and one at City Library.
Illuminated Decorations around the City
- You can find stunning illuminated walk through present boxes in Hurtle Square/Tangkaira, Rundle Road/East Tce, Wellington Square/Kudnartu and Light Square / Wauwi.
- Brougham Gardens/Tantutitingga is home to illuminated 3D stars and large baubles.
- Look for the large baubles in Hindmarsh Square/Mukata and Edwin Smith Gardens/Karrawirra
- Can you find the illuminated Christmas wreaths at Adelaide Town Hall?
Banners & Balcony Bows
Along the streets of the city and North Adelaide, banners and flags have been installed spreading hope, joy, peace and cheer all throughout the festive season. Buildings throughout the city are also getting into the festive spirit with big red bows lining building balconies.
