Drage Reserve Riverview Playground

Drage Reserve Riverview Playground – Review

Drage Reserve Playground, located in the inner north-eastern suburbs along the Torrens Linear Park in Felixstow, is a fantastic playground for all ages and abilities.

by Claire Davill

Drage Reserve Riverview Playground underwent an upgrade in 2019, designed with children of all ages and abilities in mind.  There is a wheelchair and stroller friendly path winding through the whole area, a wheelchair friendly trampoline and a ramp leading up to one section of equipment, as well as a wheelchair accessible merry-go-round.

The playground is fully fenced and completely covered in shade sails.  The rubber base also helps make it accessible and safe.  Outside of the fenced area are picnic tables, barbeques, a drinking fountain and there’s a toilet block nearby also.

There’s a whole range of equipment to suit all ages, including three slides of varying sizes. There are climbing walls and climbing nets, some quite high and challenging enough for older kids. There’s springy surfboards and cars, and a four-way springy seesaw. The merry go round is a hit with kids, but smaller children may need an adult’s help to get momentum going as it’s quite heavy and stiff.

At one end of the playground there is a row of four swings (two with toddler seats) and a large, spinning basket swing that can accommodate several children at once.

There are park benches dotted around the edge of the playground and outside of the fenced area you’ll also find some picnic tables – these are often in use for birthday parties so arrive early if you want to grab one. Note that the picnic tables are not shaded at all and close to the road (Riverside Drive) and the Linear Park Trail.

Nearest coffee is 500 metres up Briar Road at Sugar Coated Cakes – note they are open early mornings until 2pm weekdays/12pm on Saturdays and closed on Sundays (as at March 2022).

There’s plenty of space to park bikes if you are visiting during a family bike ride along the Torrens Linear Park. Down the hill towards the river from the playground is a footbridge, and a large grassed area where a lot of ducks congregate. There is also sometimes a resident koala in one of the large eucalyptus trees surrounding the area – keep your eyes peeled!  The playground is situated near the fabulous nature play area in Felixstow Reserve.
