Eonarium Genesis: An Immersive Light Show | Review
Eonarium Genesis: A beautiful 360-degree immersive projected light show
Eonarium: Genesis is an immersive digital art and light show projected onto the walls, arches, windows, and vault of Pilgrim Uniting Church. The show itself is an artistic and abstract interpretation of the story of the world’s creation. Whatever your take on how the world was created, it’s easy to appreciate the wonder and beauty of the creation presented at Pilgrim Uniting Church – a beautiful backdrop to a fitting venue for this captivating show.
Eonarium: Genesis has been developed by a team of artists from the Swiss artist collective PROJEKTIL, which combines digital art and technology to create immersive storytelling. This particular story is an artistic interpretation which loosely follows the creation of the planets, water, land, sea, sea creatures, plants, birds and humans. At times, the artwork is highly abstract, while at other times, we can clearly see realistic plant tendrils emerging and creeping across the ceiling, sea creatures, and flowers.
One of the most memorable moments was the sensation of being in an aquarium and watching sea creatures float by – we watched with wonder as a giant squid and a whale passed across the ceiling, above our heads.
The projected artworks are accompanied by a range of musical genres – classical, hymns, rock and also bassy house music.

This felt like a very easy show to attend – a duration of 30 mins only (great for wriggly kids), there was no long wait to get in, tickets were processed efficiently and there was plenty of room inside and comfy seating (pews with comfy cushions). Some families chose to sit on the ground near the front of the church, which is great for kids who might need a little more wiggle room. You can also bring your own or borrow a neck cushion because the show is projected not only around this small but beautiful church, but also onto the ceiling.
Pilgrim Uniting Church is just a short walk from Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga, so it’s a great idea to combine the experience (duration: 30 mins) with a meal in the city before or after the show.
If you love immersive audiovisual shows, we think you’ll really enjoy this.
What we like about
- Beautiful storytelling through digital art
- Comfy seats
- Plenty of room
- 30 mins duration
- No long wait to get inside
Things to consider
- Recommended ages 2+. Kids under 5 are free.
- At one point, the music was quite loud and bassy (fitting for the show) – be mindful of sensitive ears.
- There’s a very brief montage of the world in chaos – with pictures of destruction. It’s very fleeting, and it’s hard to discern exactly what the images are about. We think most kids will probably miss this.
- On-street parking may be limited on weekends. We parked at a nearby car park.
