Discover FREE activities for kids during the July school holidays at the Australian Space Discovery Centre in Adelaide.

Launch into School Holidays at the Australian Space Discovery Centre this Winter! They have daily activities to inspire budding space explorers and innovators of all ages. Entry is free 7 days per week (open 10am-5pm) from 5-20 July 2025. 

The Australian Space Discovery Centre aims to inspire the next generation with stories of opportunity, curiosity, and technology. It offers a place for the community to discover and explore the latest innovations in space technologies. Learn about Australia’s current and future role in space at the Discovery Centre, which hosts: a Careers Information Hub showcasing rewarding and diverse career pathways in the local space industry, an operational Mission Control Centre viewable through a theatrette for live space events and opportunities to engage with space experts, and an interactive space exhibition offering immersive, hands-on experiences.

Student Cadet Rocket Adventure Program (S.C.R.A.P.) Challenge

Flex your engineering creativity in this paper rocket design challenge! Participants will build, launch, and refine their rocket designs to discover how to fly as high and as accurately as possible.  Launches will be conducted outside. Sun protection is recommended.

Junior Universe Mechatronic Pilot (J.U.M.P.) Challenge

Learn about science and technology in space with the J.U.M.P. (Junior Universe Mechatronic Pilot) boxes. Have a play with a Roo-ver Jr. robot –­ practice programming to make it perform different tasks, and complete different missions.

  • Session Duration: 60 minutes
  • Ages: 5-15 years

So Many Satellites

What is a satellite? What do they do? And why are there so many of them? Join them to explore the many different types of satellites orbiting our planet, and discover some of the different jobs they do to help us every day. What special job will your satellite do?

Space Storytime

The Australian Space Discovery Centre invite all little-astronauts to join them in-centre for Space Storytime. Each session will begin with a reading of a space book followed by an activity before attendees are invited to explore the Space Gallery.  

  • Session Duration: 60 minutes (including 30 minute storytime, followed by time to explore the centre)

Australia’s Mission Control

There are millions of pieces of space junk in orbit around Earth and we rely heavily on satellites for so many things. For example, Google Maps, GPS, card payments, communications and more! So… How do we keep track of it all? How do we know what is space junk and what’s not? Learn from Saber Astronautics, from Australia’s Responsive Space Operations Centre at the Australian Space Discovery Centre.

Is it Rocket Science?

They’re the Adelaide Rocketry Division and if you can’t tell, they love rockets! Have you ever wanted to go to space? If yes, they’re going to show you how – It really is just rocket science.   Join them for the chance to make your own model rocket. They welcome you to take any additional arts and craft materials you would like but so not to miss out, register today and get ready to launch into an out-of-this-world school holiday session!

Space Garden

If you could take one plant with you on a space mission, what would you bring? Discover for yourself with the ‘Space Garden’ workshop.  In this session, become an amateur astrobotanist by designing and crafting your very own space plant. You’ll use problem-solving skills to explore how and why they grow plants in space, and how they can be used for food, fibres, medicine and more.

Robogals Presents: Robot Battle

Join their friends from Robogals Adelaide to program a battle robot.

Prepare for an exciting workshop where you will learn the basics of coding and put your skills to the test by programming your very own battle bot. In this hands-on session, you will code commands, strategise with your team, and prepare your robot for the ultimate arena showdown. Your mission: Outsmart and out code the competition to be the last bot standing!!

Young roboticists of all genders are welcome.

Robogals Presents: Robot Dance

Join their friends from Robogals Adelaide to program a robot dance.  You will explore the basics of robotics and engineering, programming, and sensors, before putting your robot to the test in the arena.

Robogals consists of local chapters around the globe run engineering and technology workshops free-of-charge in their local communities, focusing on encouraging girls from primary to secondary school to explore an interest, as well as cultivate self-confidence, in these areas.

Curious about a career in space? Launch Your Space Career is a free school holiday session designed for high school and university students eager to explore pathways into the space sector.

Whether you’re just starting to explore your interests or already planning your next steps, this session will give you practical insights and inspiration to help launch your journey into Australia’s space sector.
