Launch into School Holidays at the Australian Space Discovery Centre this September and October! As well as free entry from 10am to 5pm every day from 28 September to 13 October, they have daily activities to inspire budding space explorers and innovators of all ages.
The Australian Space Discovery Centre aims to inspire the next generation with stories of opportunity, curiosity, and technology. It offers a place for the community to discover and explore the latest innovations in space technologies. Learn about Australia’s current and future role in space at the Discovery Centre, which hosts: a Careers Information Hub showcasing rewarding and diverse career pathways in the local space industry, an operational Mission Control Centre viewable through a theatrette for live space events and opportunities to engage with space experts, and an interactive space exhibition offering immersive, hands-on experiences.
Find your place in space these school holidays with:
- The Student Cadet Rocket Adventure Program (SCRAP) Challenge (ages 7-14) challenges aspiring rocket scientists to create an air-puff-powered paper rocket that flies as high and accurately as possible.
- Operation: Plants in Space (ages 7-14) asks budding botanists to consider how we can grow plants for food and comfort as we explore beyond our planet and challenges them to design a space habitat for plants.
- Operation: Storytime (ages 3-8), invites little astronauts to join us for a space story book reading, followed by the opportunity to explore the Space Gallery.
- So Many Satellites! (ages 5-12) explores the many types of machines orbiting our planet, and investigates the different jobs they can do.
- Solar System Explorers (ages 5-12) asks what it takes to survive away from the Earth, and challenges young space engineers to invent a way to explore another planet.
Tickets are required for special activities.
Student Cadet Rocket Adventure Program (S.C.R.A.P.) Challenge
Flex your engineering creativity in this paper rocket design challenge! Participants will build, launch, and refine their rocket designs to discover how to fly as high and as accurately as possible.
- Launches will be conducted outside. Sun protection is recommended.
- Session Duration: 90 minutes
- Ages: 7-14 years

So Many Satellites
What is a satellite? What do they do? And why are there so many of them? Join them to explore the many different types of satellites orbiting our planet, and discover some of the different jobs they do to help us every day. What special job will your satellite do?

Solar System Explorers
Explore our Solar System, investigate what makes each planet unique, and find out why human-like life doesn’t thrive on planets other than Earth. Participants will then apply what they’ve discovered to invent a vehicle that will they could use to explore a planet, moon, or asteroid of their choice.
- Session Duration: 90 minutes
- Ages: 5-12 years

Space Storytime
The Australian Space Discovery Centre invite all little-astronauts to join them in-centre for Space Storytime. Each session will begin with a reading of a space book followed by an activity before attendees are invited to explore the Space Gallery.
- Session Duration: 30 minute storytime, followed by time to explore the centre.
- Ages: 3-8 years

Plants in Space
Plants are an important part of any human space habitat. They give us food, and they make us feel good. But what do plants need to be able to thrive off-Earth? How can we grow enough food for astronauts living in space, on the Moon, or even on Mars? In Operation: Plants in Space, it’s up to you to design the solution!

ROBOGALS:
Robogals consists of local chapters around the globe run engineering and technology workshops free-of-charge in their local communities, focusing on encouraging girls from primary to secondary school to explore an interest, as well as cultivate self-confidence, in these areas. Young roboticists of all genders are welcome.
Robogals: Robot Battle
Join the friends from Robogals Adelaide to program a battle robot. You will explore the basics of robotics and engineering, programming and sensors, before putting your robot to the test in the arena to battle against other teams’ creations!
- Session Duration: 90 minutes
- Ages: 8-15 years

Join the friends from Robogals Adelaide to program a dancing robot. You will explore the basics of robotics and engineering, programming and sensors, before putting your robot to the test in the dance arena.
