Playgroup SA | Find a Playgroup Near You

A playgroup is a regular, informal gathering where parents, carers, grandparents and young children (usually from birth to 5 years old) get together to play, socialise, and learn through fun activities.

There are over 250 Community Playgroups in South Australia that typically meet weekly for up to two hours in venues such as community centres, halls, parks and schools.

Here’s what playgroups are all about:

For children:

  • A safe place to explore, play, and interact with other kids of a similar age
  • Activities often include painting, music, story time, sand play, and outdoor games.
  • Helps with early learning, confidence, and social skills.

For parents and carers:

  • A chance to meet other families, share experiences, and build friendships.
  • Support network for new parents.
  • Usually run by parents or volunteers (supported by an organisation like Playgroup SA).

Parents and caregivers work together to provide their babies and young children with opportunities to learn through play. Each parent or carer is responsible for their child’s behaviour at playgroup and this helps to ensure close supervision of all children.
