Gelato Bello | Authentic Italian Ice Cream right here in Adelaide

Gelato Bello Ice Cream

Gelato Bello

Gelato Bello is an unassuming little ice cream shop in the Eastern Suburbs. They’ve been around since 1996 and the locals who know it, all love it.

You only need to check out the constant stream of people visiting here, especially on Summer evenings, when you’ll often see a line-up out the door.

They make their gelato the authentic Italian way, on-site from fresh local ingredients daily. Your only problem will be which flavours do you choose? There are so many and they all look delicious.

Our visit to Gelato Bello, Glynde

On our visit we tried these flavours: Chocolate (of course!), Vanilla, Choc Mint, Watermelon, Coconut, Toblerone and Honeycomb. They were all packed full of flavour and delicious. The kids also had their cones ‘choc dipped’ for an extra $1 ie some chocolate from the chocolate fountain is put into the bottom of the cone and also around the rim of the waffle cone. 2 big scoops in a cone or cup was $5, which is cheaper than most of the franchised ice-cream shops. {Cost current as of January 2014}

We had an early dinner and visited in the evening at around 7pm. You won’t believe how quickly (and with no fuss) the kids will eat their dinner when there’s an ice cream shop to visit afterwards! There was a steady stream of people, many of them families, all doing the same thing. Literally as one car would pull out, another would take its place.

They have a few tables and chairs plus a bench and seats inside if you would like to eat in air-conditioning. Outside along their verandahs there are more tables and chairs. Don’t expect fancy decor or anything. People don’t come here for cafe ambience – they come purely because the ice-cream is good!

Please be aware that if you are sitting outside along the verandahs there are cars driving in and out right beside there, all along the side of the shop and along the front, so best to keep a close eye on young children.

Be prepared for a little mess too! Gelato is slightly softer than regular ice-cream and therefore on a warm night may melt a little quicker, especially for little ones who may not be able to eat fast enough. Grab lots of napkins from the counter and have some baby wipes on you for sticky mouths, noses, faces, fingers, everywhere really!

Added bonus: If you are there during the day you can also visit the Robern Menz factory outlet just across the road and maybe pick up some Fruchocs or Chocolate Snakes etc.
