Get Around It Zine | Digital Showcase of young South Australian thinkers, makers and doers

Get Around It Zine – a showcase of young South Australian thinkers, makers & doers

Last week as part of Youth Week 2020 celebrations the Get Around It Zine was launched. It features a year’s worth of profiles of young South Australians who include gymnasts, poets, musicians, activists, designers, and dancers to name a few.

Get Around It is an initiative of SA’s Commissioner for Children and Young People, Helen Connolly. GAI is designed to showcase 14 to 22-year-old South Australian thinkers, makers and doers. Over time it will become a ‘talent bank’ showcasing hundreds of young South Australians who are having an impact in ways that are perhaps less well-known.

Current profiles include Luella Dawson and Lucas Horta and their Light TV platform; Laura Gentgall and her female art collective; Lucinda Penn and her mural art and illustrations; and Luci Blackborough, the youngest city councillor in South Australia.

Get Around It showcased these amazing young ‘backyard achievers’ via Instagram and on a pop-up clothes-line, sharing their stories of creativity and enterprise ‘online and on-the-line’ at youth events and venues since its launch this time last year.

Now the Get Around It Zine brings the stories of these young people into one poster publication so readers can appreciate the breadth and depth of young SA talent. From creating digital content to campaigning for change, from inventing new products to mastering new skills, these young South Australians inspire their peers as they forge new frontiers and demonstrate just how talented young South Australians are.
