Glen Forest Tourist Park | Port Lincoln, Eyre Peninsula | Review

Farm Life Fun at Glen Forest Tourist Park in Port Lincoln.

by Katrina Gogel

Set in picturesque surroundings and only fifteen minutes’ drive from Port Lincoln, the fabulous Glen Forest Tourist Park is a must-see attraction when visiting the Eyre Peninsula. With its animals, mini golf, huge maze, Segway hire and picnic facilities, it’s the perfect place for a day out with the family.

Having spent a few leisurely afternoons at Glen Forest while holidaying on the Eyre Peninsula over recent years, we can highly recommend a visit here!

The Animals

Kids will enjoy wandering around the spacious park feeding and patting the Glen Forests animals. Animal varieties include koalas, dingoes, kangaroos, wombats, sheep, goats, emus, camels, horses, cows, water buffaloes, Babe the pig, ostriches, ducks, peacocks and a walk-in bird aviary, which we can confirm, is a definite highlight of Glen Forest Tourist Park.

There’s also cute little rabbits and guinea pigs in the Nursery area, that little ones will adore. Our youngest spent AGES cuddling them all and pleading with us to buy one as a pet (we didn’t… and he’s still asking).

The large, enclosed Kangaroo area is also sure to be a hit with kids, with lots of friendly kangaroos lazing on the grass awaiting a feed and pat.

One of the main attractions at Glen Forest is the aviary, with its brightly coloured budgerigars and parrots. Get your kids to pop some seed in the palm of their hand and stand quietly with arm outstretched… and wait for the birds to land. It’s thrilling when they do, and everyone will be left buzzing with excitement.

The aviary, kangaroos and nursery are all located near the main building and entrance. From here you can wander further and follow gravel paths out to visit the many other animals that call the park home.

Be sure to incorporate the 1pm koala feed into your visit!

The Maze

A recent addition to Glen Forest is the fantastic wooden adventure maze. It is huge, and we all had a blast trying to navigate our way through to reach the high tower in the middle. Once there the kids excitedly took turns ringing the bell, signalling that they’d made it.

For extra fun, see if you can find all the little figurines that have been placed throughout the maze. A sheet with details will be handed to you when paying at reception.

Mini Golf & Segways

For even more family fun, you can play a round of 18-hole, animal themed mini golf, or opt for the full Glen Forest experience and hire off-road Segways!

Learn to drive the Segways around a circuit track, before going behind the scenes to explore more than 80 acres of the tourist parks vineyard. Kids need to be over the age of eight, or weigh a minimum of 30kgs, to operate a Segway.

Our youngsters are still a bit too small for the Segways, but a ride is on their to-do list in the near future!

Picnic Facilities

One of the great things about Glen Forest is the undercover BBQ and picnic area that you can use for no extra cost. Bring your own meat and salads for a BBQ, or pack a picnic blanket and sit on one of the shady lawned areas. The large reception building also doubles as a kiosk, offering tea, coffee, drinks, ice creams and souvenirs. Glen Forest Tourist Park also hosts parties and functions.

Winery

Glen Forest is also a winery, with over 80 acres of the Lincoln Estate vineyard situated on the property. You can taste-test some of their wines in the main building during your visit, and purchase a bottle (or two!) to take home as a souvenir.
