2013 marks the 35th celebration of Glendi and to mark the occasion the festival is returning to an open park setting – Bonython Park, Adelaide. A fun filled weekend of music, dance, art and culture – not to mention mouth-watering Greek food and sweets, and everyone’s favourite – plate smashing! So if you are seeking a weekend of family fun at arguably one of South Australia’s original Food and Wine Festivals, be sure to save the date.
Glendi is an annual weekend long festival that celebrates Greek culture in Australia and is the largest multicultural festival in South Australia. The Glendi has something for all age groups. You can share the experience with family and friends. Entertainment includes singing, dancing, showground rides, comedians, belly dancers, food stalls and wrestling which is sure to keep the whole family entertained. The Glendi is a great opportunity to sample some of the unique and wonderful greek delicacies. Come and try your favourite authentic dishes such as Yiros, Baklava, Dolmades and Pastitscho plus find a few new ones you didn’t know about!
The Glendi showcases some of the Greek community groups’ performances such as cultural dancing and traditional music played with authentic instruments such as the Bouzouki. These performers range in age with children as young as 3 or 4 up to elder veterans who have plied their trade for many years.
The Glendi Festival will be held on Saturday 30 November 2013 from 12 noon until 12 midnight and Sunday 1 December 2013 from 12 noon until 10.00pm. Saturday night will feature a fireworks extravaganza!
