Granite Island Causeway Project | Victor Harbor | South Australia

Granite Island Causeway Project

The South Australian Government has committed $31.1 million in funding towards the Granite Island Causeway Project to begin in 2021.

The 150+ year old Granite Island Causeway is the only link between Granite Island and the mainland at Victor Harbor. An iconic landmark with considerable heritage value, it is a popular tourist attraction and drawcard for visitors to Victor Harbor, one of our favourite coastal regions on the Fleurieu Peninsula, 83km south of Adelaide.

The Causeway is an asset of the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (the Department) who are responsible for its care and control.  Following a condition assessment that identified the structure was approaching the end of its useful life, the SA Government has committed $31.1 million in funding towards the construction of a new Causeway.

The new Granite Island Causeway will be constructed next to the existing Causeway and will continue to deliver and enhance social and economic benefits to the region and provide a long-term solution that is environmentally sensitive.

Construction works on the new Granite Island Causeway are due to commence in March 2021 and it is expected to be operational for late 2021, weather permitting.
