A Visit to the Menz FruChocs Shop | Hahndorf

Sweet treats in Hahndorf at the Menz FruChocs Shop

Hahndorf is a family favourite destination of our any time of year and if you love chocolate there is yet another reason to visit – the Menz FruChocs Shop.  There are already plenty of sweet treats to discover along the main road through this wonderful tourist town, so South Australia’s own fruity apricot chocolate balls are right at home here.

The unique part of this shop, however, is the viewing window at the back of the store where you can watch the production line of the yummy RainbowGems (giant freckles) produced solely in the Hahndorf store.  Watch the melted chocolate being poured into moulds before being covered with hundreds and thousands, allowed to set and then packaged and sealed.  Both children and adults alike will enjoy this exclusive peak behind the scenes.

As well as discovering how Menz make their RainbowGems there are free tastings and a FruChocs Fondue on offer, where customers can come in, purchase a cup of lollies from the Menz lolly bar and cover them in warm Menz chocolate.  There is of course the entire selection of Menz, Robern and Medlow products available to purchase, such as Medlow Fine Gels, Menz Honeycomb, Menz Crown Mints and the full FruChocs selection.

We of course included a bag of FruChocs in our purchase with plans to make more FruChoc Brownies (again!)

Location:

Shop 2/80 Main Street, Hahndorf

About Robern Menz…

Robern Menz manufacture a wide range of chocolate based confectionery and gourmet goodies.   The Robern companies had their origin in 1908 when Walter Sims opened the first of his grocery stores in North Unley.  In 1926, he bought a dried fruit factory near Mildura to ensure reliable supplies of quality products for his customers.  In 1992, Robern bought the Menz confectionery business when Arnott-Motteram-Menz was taken over by an American multinational company. The Menz tradition dates back to a small grocery and bakery business established in 1850. Their reputation for quality products grew rapidly as the company produced biscuits such as the famous Yo Yo and their confectionery and chocolate products, including Crown Mints (first made in 1892) and South Australia’s own FruChocs.  In 2003, Robern Menz bought the Medlow Fine Gels business, which had been established in McLaren Vale in 1995.
