Channel Nine Adelaide 1959 to Now Exhibition | 9 Apr – 19 Jun 2016

channel 9

Come on a journey as Adelaide City Council takes you back to the beginnings of Channel 9 in South Australia in 1959. Reminisce at some of the iconic shows that went to air –Adelaide Tonight, The Channel Niners, Here’s Humphrey or the Country and Western Hour – and the personalities on our screens – Lionel Williams, Kevin Crease, Roger Cardwell or Ian Fairweather. Who could forget Anne Wills and her dazzling earrings or Winky Dink, the fluffy pink duck?

The early days of Channel 9 weren’t without difficulties. Discover why the NWS 9’s first night on air was broadcast from the women’s dressing room.

The exhibition also explores the world of news in the ‘news room’ – see how news has evolved over the years, the major events covered by Channel Nine and the newsreaders who have delivered the news to us each night.

Exhibition is on display in the Institute Gallery and Ante Room, State Library of South Australia.
