Tea Tree Gully’s New Civic Park Playground is Now Open
Editors note: TTG council has listened to the feedback from families since the playground opened. You asked, they’re delivering. Additional funds have been allocated towards shade sails for the playground. The playground is currently closed for works and will reopen on Friday 19 May 2017.
The City of Tea Tree Gully has announced the new $670,000 Civic Park playground is now open for playing and exploring. Along with the opening of the Cobbler Creek Recreation Park Playground and bike tracks earlier this year, this is another great win for families in the North and North East of Adelaide.
The previous playground was more than 20 years old so it was exciting news when it was first announced this upgrade was taking place. With many community events held at Civic Park on North East Road, Modbury, during the year, this will be well used by many families with children. It will be a great place to visit any day of the week for a play, and a place for families and friends to have catch-ups and parties.
The new playground has been designed to cater for different age groups and abilities, with three play zones, including a three-storey play unit, climbing frame and large rope swing.
Please note it is not fully fenced but does have fencing along the creek side.
Sound and music elements have also been incorporated to challenge and inspire children’s sense of exploration, adventure and imagination.
Tea Tree Gully Mayor, Kevin Knight said the new playground provides a safe space for children of all ages and abilities to play together.
“Providing an area that supports learning, inclusivity and fun for the community is important and I’m excited to see children and their families enjoy the new facility at Civic Park,” Mayor Knight said.
Additonal BBQ facilities have been added to allow families to spend more time here with the opportunity to have a picnic and enjoy an extended play there.
To minimise damage to the existing landscape and keep cost at a minimum, the revised design utilises the existing pathways and irrigated turf areas. By keeping the old established trees there, shade is maximised. One part of the playground includes shade sails as well.
Families will have the opportunity to experience the new equipment for the first time at the Civic Park Carols event on 11 December 2016.
This upgrade was supported by the State Government with $325,000 in funding.
We are looking forward to checking out this new playground to review it. All photos above are by the City of Tea Tree Gully.
