Virginia Community Playground | A Little Gem in Virginia

Cath Leo Virginia Playground

Virginia Community Playground, Virginia, South Australia

Strangely enough, this gem of a playground at Virginia (about 30kms north of the Adelaide CBD) is actually a big hit with two women – one who lives an hour south, one who lives an hour north! It has often been the brilliant half way meeting point to spend time nattering away while our kids play. On the day of this review, we clocked up FIVE HOURS with five kids (aged 2 to 9) running and climbing while we got to catch up.

But enough about the mums…! This fully fenced playground offers a wide variety of activities for kids of all ages, as well as a dedicated fitness zone for adults to get their heart rate up at the same time. We didn’t…. but we could have! Perhaps another time we’ll don the sneakers.

There’s climbing and play equipment suitable for toddlers, like the slippery dip, see-saws, rockers and a bridge. Big kids will be very entertained by the HUGE scramble net pyramid (which might give parents a fright when they make it to the top!) that seems to be pretty safe, as well as a basketball court and another ball throwing basket to aim for.

Our kids also liked investigating the fitness equipment but do take care that toddlers are under supervision in this part of the playground. Some of the leg-swinging pieces could whack an unsuspecting little one in the face. This was the only area we felt needed a bit of extra care with our 2 year olds.

There is ample shade which helped us have a long stay on this sunny day and toilets are just outside the fence. The adjacent oval is another option for big kids to have a run around and a kick of the ball.

We didn’t buy coffees on the way but the main street of Virginia is close by and I’m sure you could source some as well as take away food. We packed a picnic and thermos instead.

Well worth a drive and pack supplies for a long stay!
