KIK Coffee Store | A Youth Social Enterprise | 22 Aug 2016

 Learning to make coffee 2

KIK Coffee Store is launching Monday 22 August 2016.

A group of 15 disadvantaged young people from Adelaide’s Northern suburbs are defying the odds with their new social enterprise coffee shop and “coffee uber” delivery service launching on Monday 22 August. An amazing SA local, Louise Nobes, who is the founder and CEO of Inspired Buy developed this coffee shop concept to give young people with experience of homelessness, family violence, mental illness or social exclusion the opportunity to shine.

With Louise, these young people have co-designed and managed every aspect of the shop, from brand development, shop-layout and menu creation, operations and most importantly, KIK’s very own coffee roast in conjunction with Adelaide-based Monastery Roasters.

Why This Project Matters:

  • Each night across Australia, over 35,000 young people are homeless
  • 1 in 3 unemployed Australians are Young People (15-25)
  • South Australia’s Northern Suburbs has one of the highest youth unemployment rates nationally.
  • Of these young people, almost 60% are at risk of long-term unemployment

The Mission of this program:

To impact the lives of 1000+ Young People by looking at new ways to keep them in education or training and to support them into sustainable employment.

The Project:

To create positive community change for young people and achieve social enterprises with a ‘difference’. Using coffee as their ‘muse’,  Inspired Buy  have engaged young people who are disengaged from school across the North- East of Adelaide to participate in a DREAM BIG entrepreneurship program. The 12 month program is seeing young people co-design the very first KIK coffee store with from brand development, shop-layout and construction, how to run successful retail stores and all areas of operations.

Inspired BUY is a not for profit social innovation organisation which strives to make a positive IMPACT to the lives of disadvantaged youth.

The mission is to impact the lives of 1000+ Young People by looking at new ways to keep them in education or training and to support them into sustainable employment.
