Klemzig Recreation Reserve Adventure Playground
Corner of O.G. Road & North East Road, Klemzig
The Klemzig Recreation Reserve had a major transformation in 2014 and there is now a fabulous new adventure playground suitable for children of different ages and abilities. This major upgrade created a great play space but the one thing that everyone thought would make it even better is having shade. It was therefore a great move by the City of Port Adelaide Enfield and a welcome addition to the play space that large shade cloth was erected over the play equipment in 2015.
The first four photos showing here are of the updated space with shade cloth sails over the playground.
Klemzig Reserve Summary
- Adventure playground including nature play elements, suitable for all ages.
- There are many pieces of climbing equipment for kids of all different abilities.
- It has a double flying fox and one of the seats is a safety seat with buckle for children with disabilities, or for younger kids.
- Bike/scooter/walking track around the Reserve.
- Large oval with cricket nets and open community tennis courts.
- BBQs, shelters, table & benches & toilet.
- Situated right behind the O.G. Hotel it could be a lunch or dinner option.
- There is free car parking beside the adjacent Klemzig Community Hall off of North East Rd.
- It is not fully fenced therefore young children need to be supervised.
The photos below are of the equipment up close which were taken when the playground was first opened. Please note that these areas look a bit different now since the shade cloths were installed.
There are great open grassy areas for ball games, in fact there is an oval adjacent to the play area, as well as cricket nets and tennis courts.
This huge interconnected climbing frame below offers a great challenge for kids aspiring to be monkeys (like mine!) or spiders!
It consists of three big and different climbing frames all linked together.
This other frame nearby (pictured below) offers rock climbing practice; some balancing; spider web climbing and monkey rings to swing on.
There’s a slide, swings and this whizzing ring.
The double flying fox has one normal circle seat as well as a safety seat complete with seat belt, which allows younger children or kids with disabilities a chance to also have a turn.
There is a lot of variety here with different things to play on, many using negotiation with ropes and steps so they won’t get bored easily.
The smaller activity play set with slide below will keep little ones happy.

Another bonus here is a smooth pathway, perfect for riding bikes and scooters, all the way around the playground and all around the big oval too. It’s a great place to teach children how to ride their bikes and also fab for others wanting to gain confidence with riding.
How cute are these little houses? Bring along some chalk so the kids can decorate them.
There are 3 shelters each with a table and benches and bbq. Two of them are right beside the playground. The other one is across the grass area, beside the tennis courts.
You can grab some shade under this single tree in the middle of the grass area or have a seat at one of the park benches scattered around. If you are having a big get-together or party I would suggest taking along your own table and chairs and portable shelter too, in case the three shelters are taken. As you can see there is plenty of open space for this. {Please note: if you plan to peg anything into the ground you need council permission in case irrigation system gets damaged.}
There is a toilet across the grass area just near the tennis courts.
Here are the tennis courts above and the cricket nets below, alongside the big oval.
Safety note: this playground is not fully fenced
The playground is situated directly behind the O.G Hotel and is fenced along the car park areas (including the hotel car park) and along O.G. Road and all around the play area so kids are not near any of the busy roads. Unfortunately it’s not fully fenced. Adjacent to the playground is an outdoor adults’ gym area and just beyond there, it is not fenced and there is access to another car park area, so little ones who are runners or who like to wander, do need to be supervised.
The adult gym below is at the far end of the playground and beyond the Klemzig Community Hall building below is where there is no fencing and access to the car park. This community hall is very new and available for hire at reasonable rates. See details here.

It is just a little frustrating that a new playground gets built in this day and age yet no sun shades are put up over the play equipment…….? Still looks great though.
Really needs a sunshade but looks great.
Thank you for making the point about the playground not being fully fenced.
We had a potentially scary incident there yesterday when I realised this. Partially fencing an area from the road and carpark can give the illusion that its fully fenced from the road and carpark. I will be contacting the council on Tuesday to make a complaint.
