Lifesaving World Championships 2018
Surf Lifesaving SA are set to host thousands of lifesavers from across the globe, as the International Lifesaving Federation World Championships comes to South Australian shores for the largest event of its kind ever held.
An event of huge proportions, the Lifesaving World Championships 2018, from November 16 to December 2, will match the number of registrations lodged in the Commonwealth Games earlier this year.
Over 4400 eager participants in 806 teams from 44 countries worldwide will descend on Adelaide, gearing up for what is to be another show-stopper to the State’s major events calendar.
The titles host a competition program delivered over 16 days, including events in the surf, on the sand, in the pool, and in boats – attracting the most talented lifesaving athletes to compete for the title of World’s Best.
Conducted every two years, Adelaide will be hosting its second ILS Lifesaving World Championships, after an incredibly successful event in 2012.
Clare Harris, CEO, Surf Lifesaving South Australia said “Adelaide first hosted the ILS World Championships in 2012 and Surf Lifesaving SA could not be prouder to host the 2018 Lifesaving World Championships. This means a lot for our state and for our Surf Lifesaving community and I would like to acknowledge and thank the South Australian Government for their support of the Championships. This event, is a fantastic way to shine that spotlight on our city and showcase our beaches we call home.”
The Lifesaving World Championships are free for Spectators at both Glenelg and the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre (SAALC).
