Light for the Bight | Semaphore | 14 Oct 2023

Light for the Bight is a free, family friendly, celebration of the incredible Nullarbor and Great Australian Bight brought alive through story by lantern-light at sunset.

Go along to Semaphore Foreshore, wait for the sun to set and then watch the magnificent lanterns commence their spectacular parade from the jetty to the reserve and then on to the beach. Event-goers can grab a bite to eat from the delicious Staazi & Co and OMG Decadent Donuts stationed on the foreshore or from the local eateries and have a picnic before the theatrics get started.

The Great Australian Bight is a truly special place that deserves World Heritage status, not only to protect this precious natural wonder but to honour the internationally-recognised rights of the First Nations communities who remain strongly connected to the sacred place.

Get Involved:

You can immerse yourself in the celebration by bringing along a star shaped lantern with you to enhance the main theatrical display which will consist of lanterns in the shape of amazing creatures from the Nullarbor and Bight. Please use LED candle lights instead of real flame for safety reasons.

Lantern Making:

If you would like to learn how to make a star shaped lantern, there is a workshop being held on Sunday 8 October 2023 at The Joinery.  CLICK HERE TO BOOK

Event Access:

Wheel-chair access is available on to Semaphore Foreshore and Jetty.

There’s limited parking near Semaphore Reserve. Event-goers are encouraged to get public transport or car-pool where possible.
