Go along to the SA Maritime Museum for a family-friendly event commemorating the remarkable accomplishments of Matthew Flinders on the 250th anniversary of his birth.
Young Matthew Flinders enlisted in the Royal Navy at the age of 16, inspired by the book ‘Robinson Crusoe’ and a dream to explore unknown lands. Over the subsequent 20 years of his life at sea, Flinders’ achievements as a navigator and captain were astonishing.
Highlights of the event include:
- A guided tour of the museum to explore and focus on the Matthew Flinders exhibits.
- ‘Trim & his Friends’ Children’s Trail – children can embark on an adventure through the museum, inspired by Flinders’ famous feline companion, Trim.
- A special collection and range of books on Matthew Flinders in the gift shop.
- A special birthday cupcake treat from Mayfair Patisserie for the first 100 visitors at the museum to commemorate this historic milestone.
