Messenger Kids is a free video calling and messaging app for smartphones and tablets
Messenger Kids app has been designed for kids as a safer alternative to the current ‘Messenger’ app. The app allows kids to keep in touch with close friends and family with fun-filled features like filters and stickers.
Parents control and can set up the contact list for kids and can also set controls as well as review and manage their kids’ contacts by using the Parent Dashboard. Kids can block and report as well, and doing so will notify their parents.
There are kid-friendly filters, reactions, and sound effects plus stickers, GIFs, emojis, and drawing tools. There aren’t any in-app purchases or ads.
While kids use Messenger Kids, parents can connect with them using their Messenger app. Approved adults can easily message and video chat with their kids via the Messenger app.
The Activity tab lets you monitor when your kid is using Messenger Kids and how they’re using it.
The Carly Ryan Foundation have put together helpful app Fact Sheets, including one for Messenger Kids which you can download from their website here (also check out their other fact sheets such as Tik Tok and Snapchat).
For information on some of the other social apps currently being used by older kids, such as Houseparty and Zoom, see our post here.
