The Outpost Education Centre at Monarto Safari Park
Monarto Safari Park has unveiled The Outpost Education Centre; a transformation of the previous Visitor Centre.
The Outpost offers a welcoming education space to ignite passion in protecting and saving species. The Outpost also includes a classroom area, sleeping space and a host of interactive and educational signage about native species and Zoos SA’s conservation priorities. The Outpost will be open to the public every day as well as being used for education visits.
Speaking about The Outpost’s transformation, Elaine Bensted, CE of Zoos SA said:
“The Outpost offers a great resource for school groups and members of the public who want to get a better understanding of species and how we can help to save them. It also offers the opportunity as a new learning space and a place for kids to sleep overnight.
“In 2021, approximately 17,000 school students visited Monarto Safari Park for educational experiences, taking part in a range of facilitated, self-guided and overnight programs. It’s important that we build on what we can offer these eager learners.
“But The Outpost isn’t just for school groups, it’s open to all visitors, and handily located close to the Meerkats, African-crested Porcupines, Yellow-footed Rock wallabies and the extremely popular Chimpanzee troop. We also have a café, bathrooms, playground and shop here too.” finished Elaine.
Monarto Safari Park attracts students from government, catholic and independent schools and a cluster of older students through the Duke of Edinburgh scheme named ‘Duke at the Zoo’.
As a conservation charity, Monarto Safari Park regularly hosts educational groups from within the region. Other educational offerings include a bush camp area called Indaba Bush Camp and the Ranger Station.
In March 2022, Monarto Safari Park opened its new visitor centre, the first of three new ventures that will see the park transform into the largest safari park outside of Africa. A new hotel and glamping resort plus safari experience are due to open mid next year.
