Naracoorte World Heritage Festival & Run – Big Fun, Trail Run at the Naracoorte Caves National Park

Head to the Naracoorte Caves National Park for the Naracoorte World Heritage Festival and Run to celebrate 50 years since the discovery of our World-famous fossil beds and 25 years since the Naracoorte Caves were inscribed on the World Heritage list.

Shake off the lazy bones, put on your sneakers and celebrate the fossils at the Mega Fest – Naracoorte World Heritage Festival and Run.  The Naracoorte Caves will come alive on Sunday 24 November 2019 to celebrate the discovery of one of the world’s 10 greatest fossil sites. Entry to the festival is free.

The Festival and Run has received funding of $20,000 from the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund, helping to drive economic growth and create stronger regional communities into the future.

Fossil Hunter’s Discovery Trail:

Discover the Wonambi Fossil Centre, uncover a fossil in the Fossil Hunters Playground and learn a little bit about the critically endangered Southern Bent-winged Bat.

These are just some of the MEGA activities on the Fossil Hunter’s Discovery Trail at the Naracoorte World Heritage Festival on 24 November 2019.  Learn a little bit more about the Naracoorte Caves National Park as you progress around the trail, there might even be a prize or two once you complete it.

Entry for the Fossil Hunter’s Discovery Trail is $10 purchased from the Wonambi Fossil Centre at the Naracoorte Caves National Parks and Wildlife Service South Australia.

Dancing with Diprotodons – hear some big stories in the Blanche Cave.

Join world renowned singing palaeontologist Professor Flint on a musical adventure celebrating the extraordinary animals found in the Naracoorte Caves. Including songs about thylacoleo, and wonambi, “Dancing with Diprotodons” is a journey of discovery to the place Prof Flint first experienced these amazing animals that once dwelt in and around Naracoorte.

It is a journey shared with many Australians, and people from around the world – A journey to the learn about creatures of the World Heritage Naracoorte Caves.

Naracoorte World Heritage Trail Run

7am start – Four distances: 22km, 14km, 5km & 1km

The inaugural Naracoorte World Heritage Trail Run is an event that hopes to gain the traction of Trail Running as a sport in the region but also link the township of Naracoorte with the World Heritage Naracoorte Caves and its walking trails. Through local businesses’ support, they hope that people come for the run/hike but stay for the Naracoorte hospitality.
