‘National Take Your Dog to Work Day’ is a wonderful oppawtunity to experience the joys of pets in the workplace and recognise the invaluable role pets play in our lives.
National Take Your Dog to Work Day this year is Friday 21 June 2024. Besides an endless supply of cuddles, taking your dog to work is also beneficial for your mental health and that of your enthusiastic puppy-petting co-workers.
If you’re thinking of letting your four-legged bestie tag along to work, there are a few things you need to consider. Have a read of this handy blog by the RSPCA for tips to ensure you, your fur-friend and those around you have a fun and safe day.
And of course, make sure you check with your employer before the new Chief Barking Officer rocks up on Friday!
Benefits of Owning a Dog
If you are not yet a dog owner but have been considering getting a dog for your family, the RSPCA has the following helpful information about the benefits for younger people.
Overall, companion animals are beneficial to the emotional, cognitive, behavioural, educational, and social development of children and youth. In young people, the presence of a companion animal can fulfil attachment needs, ease anxiety and loneliness, improve self-esteem, facilitate emotional regulation, help build resilience and foster empathy. The presence of a companion animal has been associated with improved learning outcomes (e.g. literacy, verbal skills) as animals may stimulate curiosity, reduce stress, and provide a source of non-judgemental and unconditional support. Growing up with companion animals has also been associated with a lower incidence of allergies in later life.
