Normanville Beach – a little bit of SA paradise

It’s not hard to see why Normanville Beach is one of our most favourite places to be, and a great place for a family beach holiday in South Australia.

Over the years, we’ve spent countless hours at Normanville with family and friends, building many sandcastles, playing, swimming, cartwheeling, walking and making many lovely summer holiday memories.

Getting to Normanville

Normanville is only around 75 km from Adelaide CBD and about 1 hour and 15 minutes drive. It’s an easy drive, especially with the Southern Expressway. Being so close to Adelaide, it has always been a great option for us, as my daughter hated (with a vengeance) being strapped in a car seat for more than about 5 minutes.

A lovely grassy area with some shady trees overlooking the beach, is great for a picnic and to have lunch or dinner without crunching on sand.

Normanville Surf Club

The Normanville Surf Club is right near the jetty and the Surf Patrol there on weekends provides a safe swimming area between the flags. This is generally a calm beach with light swells so particularly safe for little ones. The sand is soft and the water clear.

Where to eat in Normanville

Ice-cream, snacks and meals can be purchased from the kiosk, Surf Club (when open on the weekend evenings) or the food van in the car park, with toilet facilities at the entrance to the car park. We love the Normanville fish & chip shop back on the main street too (see all our recommendations on where to eat here).

Facilities

In fact, the reason why Normanville is such an easy holiday spot is that it has all the facilities you might need very nearby. Less packing to go on holidays is always a good thing.

The Main Street has a supermarket, the Normanville Hotel, bakery, chemist, a fantastic Surf Shop (well stocked with all your favourite surf brands), eateries, beauty salon and if you can’t find what you need there, Yankalilla is literally a 2 minute drive down the road with a larger Foodland, bakery, Browse In and Save, Yankalilla Hotel, Youth Park with playground, skate park and more.

And the sunsets. They are nothing short of magnificent.

Where to stay in Normanville?

There are two caravan parks in Normanville. The Jetty Caravan Park overlooks the jetty at Normanville Beach, while the Beachside Caravan Park is just 2 minutes away, on Cape Jervis Road. There are also many holiday homes you can rent in Normanville or surrounding areas like Carrickalinga, Yankalilla and Second Valley. Check out sites like stayz.com.au for some options. For a little bit of luxury there is The Links Lady Bay Resort, complete with the championship golf course and our personal favourite, South Shores villas.
