Outdoor Cinema: Gallipoli | ANZAC Day tribute at Centennial Park | 19 Apr 2016

CENTENNIAL PARK - FLAGS 2

SA’s largest cemetery will hold an outdoor cinema tribute for ANZAC Day.

A group of Adelaide secondary school students will set the scene for an Outdoor Cinema Tribute to mark ANZAC Day, to be held at South Australia’s largest cemetery on Tuesday 19 April.

Centennial Park in Pasadena will hold a free Outdoor Cinema Tribute event for the public on Tuesday 19 April from 6pm to commemorate the men and women who have served in times of war.

Scotch College students will lay more than 3,500 Australian flags on memorial headstones at Centennial Park, which will form a moving backdrop for the screening of Australian World War I film, Gallipoli.

Gallipoli is a 1981 Australian film that tells the story of two men from Western Australia that are sent to fight with the Australian Army in Gallipoli during the First World War.

Families are welcome to attend Centennial Park’s free Outdoor Cinema Tribute, to be held on the lawns of the cemetery’s Derrick Gardens. The community is also welcome to join and lay flags on memorial headstones at Centennial Park.

Ahead of the screening, the RSL will host a fundraising BBQ and visitors will be able to view a History SA display in the Jubilee Complex, called Blue Jeans Jungle Greens.

Blue Jeans Jungle Greens photographic display examines the conflict in Vietnam, the anti-war campaign and social movements of the time.

CENTENNIAL PARK - CROSS OF REMEMBRANCE

Centennial Park is SA’s largest cemetery for returned servicemen and women.

“Our upcoming Outdoor Cinema Tribute will be a touching way for people to honour the absolute sacrifice of those Australian servicemen and women who have taken part in war,” said Centennial Park Chief Executive Officer Ms Janet Miller.

“Scotch College students have enjoyed an almost 25-year tradition of laying flags on memorial headstones at Centennial Park ahead of ANZAC Day. It is important that our young people understand, remember and keep alive the stories of our war heroes.

“Centennial Park is a special place where families and friends can come together to reflect on the life of a loved one. The Outdoor Cinema Tribute will be a way for families, friends, children and grandparents to come together and reflect on the sacrifice of those who have fought so bravely for our country.”
