Par 3 Golf | North Adelaide Golf Course Review

Par 3 Golf in North Adelaide

Located on the banks of the River Torrens, Par 3 is the perfect course for a quick, easy game of golf and a fun outdoor family activity – no experience required!

You’ll find North Adelaide’s 18-hole Par 3 Golf Course alongside the Torrens Weir just off War Memorial Drive.  The entrance is clearly signed and is also the driveway to the Red Orhre and River Cafe. Surrounded by shady gum trees, the picturesque fairways are lush and green all year round.

Once you arrive head into the Par 3 Cafe and Pro Shop to pay your green fees and if you need to you can hire golf clubs and balls here too. Pick up your score card on the way out as it also has the course map (don’t forget to bring a pen or pencil). You can choose to play 9 holes or all 18, depending on your family age group and energy levels!  Beginners and young children may like to start with 9 holes.

There is a putting green next to the first hole which is a great spot to get some practice in before you start.  Golf is great fun to play with the whole family, or for those who don’t wish to play it’s a leisurely walk around the greens as a spectator – perhaps offer to caddy!

When you’re ready to start you can head off and play at your own pace. There is a raised square synthetic turf mat with rubber tees offer a flat teeing surface to tee off at each hole.  The greens vary in length from 56 metres to 140 metres and they are all Par 3s, making this course a great experience for players of all levels (full disclosure: our group of 5 did not make many pars on our latest visit!). Remember you don’t have to keep score if you don’t want to, but if you are filling in the score card don’t forget to keep count of your number of strokes for each hole.

If it’s busy (such as weekends and school holidays) you may have to wait for those ahead of you to finish each hole, or if you’re taking your time, especially with little ones in tow, just stand aside to allow those quicker than your group to go ahead. Walking around the manicured greens is quite therapeutic and makes for a great day out.

As the North Adelaide course is situated alongside the River Torrens, you’ll see plenty of people out with their dogs, walking, running and bike riding.  The railway line runs along side the course so you’ll see and hear the trains rumble past, and being under a flight path there are low flying planes regularly overhead.

The Par 3 Cafe is fully licensed and has a great selection of hot and cold food, plus drinks (their hot chips are really good!).  It’s a lovely spot to enjoy a snack before or after your round.   There are undercover outdoor tables and chairs, plus toilets.  There are also park benches and picnic tables next to the practice putting green.

The Par 3 course is open 7 days a week from 7.30am. Bookings are open 16 days in advance. Remember to wear neat, relaxed, casual clothing, including closed toed shoes.
