This sci-fi inspired venue has it all: virtual reality experiences, arcade games, an interactive light grid floor, frozen yoghurt, and more.
Fancy the idea of a games arcade and froyo bar rolled into one?
Say hello to Paradigm Zone!
Review by Carla Caruso
Tucked away in an unassuming building in Adelaide’s Gawler Place is this futuristic, space-themed hub, offering an unparalleled gaming experience for all ages. It’s a kids’ paradise, with all the kitschy fun and excitement of Tokyo.
Think karaoke booths, photo booths, and Virtual Reality (VR) experiences – including multiplayer shooting and music games, and rollercoaster simulations.
Opening in October 2024, the indoor entertainment venue also has an array of arcade games, many of which have never been seen before in Australia.
During our preview visit, we first fuelled up at its froyo bar, which serves up frozen yoghurt and acai desserts. Yoghurt flavours range from chocolate and strawberry to matcha and taro. Then you can add yummy toppings like Biscoff, Nutella, tapioca pearls, mochi rice cakes, and more.
The kids then let loose in a karaoke booth, singing their hearts out to a few Justin Bieber tracks. Thankfully, the booths are soundproof!
From there, we checked out the photo booths, allowing us to take home a unique memento from the evening. You can take your pick from playful accessories to wear while posing, then apply filters and frames to the images while in the booth.
After this, it was down to the basement, where you’ll find the VR arcade, arcade machines, and claw machines – the latter being my kids’ favourite. My boys took home a heap of cute plushies as prizes (the only problem being where to put them all once home!).
On the same level is a room called the ‘Light Matrix’, which is filled with interactive light tiles. It’s like you’ve entered a real-life video game. Every step matters as you navigate around the room with your family or friends, completing different challenges and levels.
For most activities at Paradigm, no advance booking is required – you can just walk in and play. However, it’s preferable to book for the Light Matrix. Wait times for each activity, of course, vary depending on how busy the venue is.
The venue doesn’t serve alcohol, so children are allowed anytime during its opening hours.
Opening hours* are:
- Monday to Thursday 10am – 10pm
- Friday to Saturday 10am – midnight
- Sunday 10am – 10pm
(*as at 5 October 2024)
For a one-of-a-kind, entertainment-filled outing, this venue is hard to top.
