Pirates Bay Bali is an outdoor cafe restaurant in Nusa Dua, with you guessed it, a pirate theme.
It’s an outdoor nature’s playground with equipment all made from timber, bamboo and ropes. There are amazing tree houses to dine in, and also a huge replica wooden pirate ship. Pirates Bay is full of tall shady trees, all on sand, overlooking the Nusa Dua beach. You can dine there for lunch or dinner. If you would like a treehouse table, it’s best to book in advance as these are popular, otherwise you may have to wait til something becomes available.
Below you’ll see the simple play equipment tied to the tall shady trees that children can explore.
There’s a flying fox/zip line too that goes between two trees. The kids got to have a couple of rides on this as part of the Treasure Hunt.
The Pirates Bay Treasure Hunt is held for children over 4 years old, at certain times of the day. It was on after lunch on the day we were there. The Treasure Hunt package includes a snack, meal and drink for each child ($35 USD per child as of April 2016). The kids receive a special pirate bandana to wear and with the help of a pirate, they need to work together, and search for each clue, one after the other. The clues are hidden all over the venue so there’s a lot of excited running around.
There is loot to be found at the end of the treasure hunt and each child receives their own bag, and the bandana to keep.
I noticed some parents left the kids there to do the treasure hunt and took the opportunity to go shopping or get a massage at the Bali Collection Shopping Mall across the road. The treasure hunt took about an hour or so to do.
The food was inexpensive – our lunch cost only around $25 AUD for the Adult meals and drinks in total. The treasure hunt was the bulk of our bill. The day we were there, the EFTPOS machine wasn’t working so I needed to go to the ATM at the Bali Collection, along with another family, who were also caught short on cash. The ATM is about a 10 minute walk from there. The treasure hunt is an optional extra – it is not compulsory to do it. You can go to Pirates Bay and just have a meal and the kids can play in the playground.
We’ve heard that they have other activities for children like kite making sometimes, and also do a bonfire.
Pirates Bay overlooks this beach above. The beaches are mainly all privately owned in Nusa Dua, apart from one stretch which is open to the public. If you are not staying in the area, by going to a beach club or eating at a cafe like Pirates Bay, means you can also hang out at the beach.
