Hills Youth Theatre Presents Pollyanna

This is a delightful, classic tale, of the greatest optimist of all time, Pollyanna. But it is much more than that. It’s a story of a little girl’s faith in her father’s promise – that you can find something good about anything that happens – guides her steadfastly through circumstances that most adults would find formidable.

Pollyanna becomes an orphan, when both her parents pass away, and is placed into the care of her wealthy but stern and cold spinster Aunt Polly, who does not want to take in Pollyanna but feels it is her duty to her late sister. A difficult situation with a clash of hope and doubt meeting under the same roof!

Pollyanna’s philosophy centers on what she calls ‘The Glad Game’, an optimistic and positive attitude she learned from her father. The game consists of finding something to be glad about in every situation no matter how bleak it may be.

With this philosophy, her own sunny personality and her sincere, sympathetic soul, Pollyanna brings so much gladness to both her aunt and the little dispirited town of Harrington that she transforms it into a pleasant place to live, touching everyone’s heart and soul with her buoyant refusal to be down cast. Even old grumpy Mr. Pendergast and complaining Mrs. Snow do not escape from her joy.

When tragedy strikes however, even Pollyanna’s optimism is put to the test and it it up to the townspeople to rally around her to demonstrate the love and happiness she has brought to their lives.

The Hills Youth Theatre is a non profit community organisation aiming to provide young people with the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of live theatre.  Theatre is recognised as being one of the more enjoyable and rewarding ways of promoting confidence, self esteem and teamwork in children of all ages.
