Polonia Reserve Upgrade Plans in Croydon Park

A new playground in Croydon Park will feature a HUGE soccer ball playground sculpture.

Following its partial closure for the South Road upgrade, Polonia Reserve has re-opened and a portion of this land is being redeveloped into open space for community use.  The Polonia Reserve upgrade will include an open kick about lawn, play space and storm water detention area. Opportunities also exist for new path and cycling connections through the reserve to better connect residents to South Road and the nearby Janice Jensen Linear Reserve.

The local community was asked what play elements and reserve facilities they wanted to see included in the upgrade and the draft concept design for Polonia Reserve was then reviewed and feedback collected to help shape the final design.

The standout playground feature is a huge 7-metre-tall, 12-metre-wide soccer ball playground sculpture. This custom-designed play element, built by local business Iguana Creative, features three levels, two slides, a climbing structure, a lookout platform, tessellated climbing steps, fire poles, an interactive ticket booth and exterior illumination.

The soccer ball play element is not just a fun addition to this new reserve but also pays homage to the area’s history. Before moving up the road to the newly constructed Regency Reserve, Polonia Reserve was home to Croydon Football Club since 1950, and before that was home to Polonia Soccer Club.

The Croydon Kings Football Club has relocated to Regency Park Oval and the retired club facilities at Polonia Reserve demolished.

The new playspace, toilets and shelters are due for completion in May 2023 to be followed by irrigation, lawn and plantings in June 2023.

The council’s playground official opening event will be held on Saturday 5 August 2023 (11am to 2pm) with event details to be released closer to the date.
