Port Noarlunga Fish & Chips | Review
There’s something special about fish and chips by the coast, and Port Noarlunga Fish & Chips does it exceptionally well. This is a classic, relaxed, beachside fish and chip shop that does it, oh, so well – 10/10.
Review by Danielle Parker
When people talk about who makes the best fish and chips in South Australia, Port Noarlunga Fish & Chips is frequently mentioned, which is exactly why we had to give it a try for ourselves.
Let’s begin by saying that this institution has been operating since the 1950s and the Leonardos Family has been running it since 1992, so you could say that they are masters of their craft.

Our first impression of Port Noarlunga Fish & Chips is that it is a classic, beachside fish and chip shop. The staff are friendly and greet you as soon as you walk in, immediately creating a warm, welcoming vibe. Their ethos is to provide “fresh and simply unforgettable” dishes, sourcing quality ingredients and cooking everything fresh to order.
The food? Pure and simple. There is a big menu of classic fish and chip shop fare. We tried the Aussie fish burger with butterfish, a chicken schnitzel pack, steak sandwich, chicken nuggets and chips.

The fish burger was a standout, with a thick piece of butterfish and plenty of toppings – think egg, onion, bacon, cheese, tomato, lettuce and mayo. Just throw out any idea of eating this delicately out the window, you just need to battle with this delicious burger and deal with the mess later. Even writing this, I’m still full! Scrumptious, no notes.

The chicken schnitzel hot pack also got a glowing review from our 8-year-old companion, who thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The steak sandwich was equally impressive, with great flavour and generous toppings.

Thick-cut chips are fried just right so you can taste the potatoes, not just the oil. You can also salt your own chips, so you can choose your own salt level, which is particularly great for kids. Servings are generous and well priced for both the portion size and quality.

Salads are freshly made with a good variety available, and there’s also a handy selection of ice creams, lollies and chocolate to top you off.
A fun “joke of the week” board adds a playful touch, giving kids (and adults) something to giggle over while waiting for their meal. It’s a simple but thoughtful detail that helps keep little ones entertained and makes the whole experience feel more relaxed and family-friendly.

We arrived just before midday and there were a few people in there waiting. Food came out quickly though, so we didn’t have to wait for long. By the time we finished, all the booths were full and more people had come in.
Families will love the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, with comfortable booth-style seating perfect for settling in and enjoying a meal together. The coastal-themed print in the dining area, featuring playful dolphins, adds a lovely touch and brings a hint of the ocean indoors. Whether you choose to dine in or grab takeaway, ordering is easy, simply call ahead or pop in. It’s also well set up for little ones, with a high chair available to make family dining that bit easier.

Make a day of it and take your family for a drive to Port Noarlunga. Start at a local park like Port Noarlunga Jubilee Park Adventure Playground or the new Sea Turtle Park, then grab some fish and chips to enjoy by the beach, with stunning coastal views. Afterwards, take a wander along the Witton Bluff Base Trail between Port Noarlunga and Christies Beach.

This is a place our family will definitely re-visit – and to be honest, I don’t think I’ll be able to get past that fish burger! Easily one of the best I’ve had in a long time.
