South Australians are being asked to put schnitties on the menu this May and pledge to support an end to bullying and drug and alcohol-fuelled youth violence.
The fundraising initiative #schnitty4sam organised by the Sammy D Foundation commemorates the life of the charity’s namesake, Sam Davis. Sam was 17 years-old when he played a game of footy, had a schnitty for dinner at South Adelaide’s clubrooms, before heading to a party with his mates. A fatal one-punch attack meant he never came home.
With violence in schools up 22% over the past three years, #schnitty4sam aims to raise $70,000 to deliver Sammy D Foundation’s life-changing education programs that provide knowledge and strategies to approximately 5000 young people to help keep themselves and their mates safe.
How to get involved:
- Enjoy a schnitty at any of the more than 50 pubs and hotels which are donating part proceeds from every schnitty sold to the foundation.
- Buy schnitzels at Drakes Supermarket in SA and QLD between now and 4 May 2024, and $1 from every specially marked pack will be donated.
- Celebrate your love of schnitties and commemorate Sam’s life with a direct online donation to the Sammy D Foundation.

This year, the Burton Foundation will match donations dollar-for-dollar up to $20,000. Last year’s #schnitty4sam campaign saw 34,963 schnitties eaten, 98 participating venues including pubs, hotels, sporting clubs and Drakes Supermarkets stores, with $30,904 raised.
About the Sammy D Foundation:
Sammy D Foundation’s education programs inform young people about the consequences of violence and drug and alcohol misuse, with the goal to achieve a whole school culture where violence is not accepted. The foundation’s aim is to ultimately create a kinder, safer society for us all.
