Semaphore Beach Playground is a huge playground right next to all the facilities at Semaphore Beach, with great climbing features, toddler-friendly equipment and plenty of shade.
Review by Claire Davill
There’s so much to see at Semaphore Beach, including the Semaphore Steam Train during the warmer months. The playground here is deceptively big, and its location right next to the kiosk, train stop, jetty and costal bike path means it’s a great spot for a play at any time of year.
The whole playground is fully fenced and there’s plenty of shade too.
The extensive climbing walls are a great feature, with challenging holds, poles and even under hangs for budding rock climbers.
More climbing fun can be had with a large climbing net, which also has a rope bridge connecting it to a small slide.
Nearby is an interesting “not-quite-flying-fox” apparatus. It’s a curved rail with platforms at each end and acts kind of like a skate ramp. It’s designed for kids to run back and forth while holding onto the handle, trying to see if they can get enough momentum to reach one of the platforms.
The centre of the playground is open with lots of soft fall mounds to run up and over, and a springy dolphin and springy fish.
There’s also a great little toddler play area with an inclined climbing wall, climbing net and double slide.
A toddler swing, regular swing and basket swing are also included.
Things to Consider:
- While the playground is fully fenced, the fence is not as high as other playgrounds and might not contain more determined escapees.
- There are toilets available, 150 metres north of the playground near the summer carnival area.
- Parking nearby is limited, and may be unavailable during busy times. There is on-street parking on The Esplanade and Semaphore Road, and off-street parking about 300 metres south of the playground (entry to the off street parking is further south, near Hart Street)
- The playground is located along the coastal bike/walking path and is a great place to stop on a bike ride. There’s even a bike repair station next to the playground.
- There’s a skate park and basketball court just south of the playground for bigger kids.
Our favourite nearby coffee spots/cafes:
The Semaphore Steam Train Kiosk is located just over the fence from the playground. The kiosk serves ice cream, cold and hot drinks, fish and chips, burgers and milkshakes.
Location:
Semaphore Foreshore, corner of The Esplanade and Semaphore Road, Semaphore.
