South Australia’s dedicated online marketplace Shop Local SA is set to help our State’s business community survive lockdown by connecting retailers with shoppers in the convenience of their own home.
As South Australia endures a seven-day lockdown to combat the highly-contagious COVID-19 Delta strain, non-essential retail businesses have been forced to close across the State. For those with a limited online presence, the shutdown means many are facing the risk of substantial losses in trade.
Shop Local SA is helping the State’s retailers prepare to survive the lockdown by rapidly building their online sales capacity – and connecting them directly with shoppers who are passionate about supporting South Aussie businesses without setting foot outside of their house.
As SA’s exclusive collective website, Shop Local SA showcases businesses from the State’s metro and regional communities in one online marketplace – making it the perfect place for housebound South Australians to visit to shop local during lockdown.
Businesses from across SA are already trading on the platform in sectors such as food and wine, craft beer and spirits, tourism experiences, art, jewellery, party supplies, fashion and beauty products. Shop Local SA is calling for other businesses facing uncertainty under the current lockdown to join.

Shop Local SA is run by a small team based in Stirling in the Adelaide Hills and gives individual businesses their own branded online ‘store’ within an eCommerce marketplace solution via the shoplocalsa.com.au site. Under the new platform, businesses work with the Shop Local SA team to establish their own branded store on shoplocalsa.com.au and list their products for sale.
Customers can then search the site by location – refining by town, regional tourism area or product type – before selecting the items they want to buy and checking out safely and securely in a single transaction, even if they’re buying from multiple vendors.
Shoppers can have their purchases delivered direct – or choose a click and collect option so they can pick up directly from stores themselves.
To join the site, there’s a one-off onboarding fee to cover set up and marketing support, and Shop Local SA attracts a small commission on any sales made through the site, which also helps fund ongoing marketing, IT tech and support. There are no ongoing fees or subscriptions.
