Space to Dream
Space to Dream is a free design thinking activity for all children and young people in SA.
Space to Dream challenges everyone under 18 years in South Australia to design a toy or gadget for someone their age who is ‘moving to Mars’.
Selected designs will be made famous in a public exhibition at MOD. There are 3D design options to create designs (or children can simply draw their designs onto a printed design sheet). To help children to create their designs, they will hear from former NASA Astronaut and Space Mission Commander, Pamela Melroy, about what it’s really like to spend time in outer space.
Children can take the Challenge at home with family, at their local library (some libraries are even running Challenge programs), with Scouts, Girl Guides and at all registered schools across SA – you can view which schools are registered on the site. School registrations have been extended to 25 September 2020 due to the recent disruptions caused by COVID-19. Only schools and libraries need to register – children taking part at home do not need to register. Children can take part as many times as they like.
It’s all free!
Space to Dream is part of the Commissioner’s Digital Challenge. The Commissioner’s Digital Challenge has been developed specifically for children and young people in South Australia because digital skills are life skills – critical for future jobs, social inclusion and a more equitable world. The Commissioner’s Digital Challenge also features a digital thinking (coding) Challenge called Learn to Speak Robot and an unplugged edition for 3-5 year olds called Early Learning Unplugged.
