Squishy Taylor and the City-Wide Ghost Plague: Adelaide Fringe 2024

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️  stars for a clever activity that kids and adults can do together at home

Review by Claire Davill

Squishy Taylor and the City-Wide Ghost Plague is an activity designed for adults and kids to complete together. This is not a show, it’s an interactive, clever activity that includes a story, puzzles, activities and a mystery to be solved. You’ll be mailed a top-secret package containing Squishy’s Sleuthing Scrapbook, and you’ll need to put your thinking caps on to solve the mystery of the ghosts that are turning up in Squishy’s neighbourhood.

The activity uses a combination of technology and the scrapbook to create a fun and engaging activity that will take you around one hour to complete. QR codes can be scanned for instructions, and for the story to be narrated to you – or you can read along in the book as well. Pages in the book contain pockets with puzzles to be solved, including maps, codes, picture cards and drawings. You’ll even listen to radio broadcasts, and need to email a drawing to Squishy, who will reply with the answer for one of the stages.

The answer to each puzzle will tell you which page to turn to for the next chapter. You’ll be moving backwards and forwards in the book, it’s a lot like a choose your own adventure book! The puzzles are just tricky enough to challenge children (with help from adults), and if you get stuck there are clues in the back of the book to help you along the way.

The narration is fun and perfectly targeted at children. It’s recommended for children aged 7 and over, but everyone can be involved with adult help. Every step of the activity draws you in and keeps you engaged in the activity, from opening the top-secret envelope to solving the mystery and filling out your sleuth squad membership card with your undercover sleuth name at the end. This is an excellent way to spend time together as a family, and a great way to participate in the Fringe from the comfort of your own home, at a time that suits you.

Squishy Taylor and the City-Wide Ghost Plague will be available to purchase during the Fringe, from 16 February 2024, and was created by The Inhabitors
