Taste Buds at Tasting Australia – Hands on learning and fun just for kids

Taste Buds is back teaching kids food provenance and how to make healthier choices. Plus, it’s FREE.

Taste Buds for kids are back at Tasting Australia after an overwhelming response to last years hands on cooking and gardening event just for kids. Christine Stephan and Julie Ray co-creators from Kitchen Stage Management developed the Taste Buds program for Tasting Australia as they felt children should be a part of the food festival.

“Why should the adults have all the fun? We saw this as a great opportunity to help develop young palates and to create a distinctive culture of healthy eating. Taste Buds give the children sensory experiences by way of growing, tasting and cooking.” said Christine Stephan.

This year Taste Buds will be held in a pop up in Rundle Mall with a cooking stage, edible garden beds and by popular demand Beatrice the Picasso Cow is back. Sessions include Food Facts with Le Cordon Bleu master chefs, Food Art with Kirsty Shadiac from Art Venture and Plant a Salad with Kim Syrus presenter for Channel 9’s Outdoor Indoor television show and Sophie Thomson from ABC Gardening Australia television show.

Taste Buds is open to children from 7-12 years of age and is a free event. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Sessions run from 30 – 40 minutes.

Food Facts

Friday 13, Tuesday 17, Thursday 19, Saturday 21 & Sunday 22 April 2018 |11am, 12 noon, 1pm, 2pm & 3pm sessions

Do you know where your food comes from? A master chef from Le Cordon Bleu will lead kids through a food fact journey teaching them about the origins of food. Kids will work with the chef to create a delicious recipes to munch on. The recipe will be included in their take home goody bag.

Cupcake making and decorating – Friday 13, Tuesday 17 & Thursday 19 April 2018

Pasta Garden Salad – Saturday 21 &  Sunday 22 April 2018

Food Art

Saturday 14 & Monday 16 April 2018 | 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm & 3pm sessions

Kids are guided in a step by step process by local artist Kirsty Shadiac from Art Venture to create artwork involving food. Kids learn how to draw food from local producers and then they get to take home their masterpiece to show off to their family.

Every child will receive a goody bag and healthy snack.

Plant a Salad

Sunday 15, Wednesday 18 & Friday 20 April 2018 | 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm & 3pm sessions

Join Sophie Thomson, ABC Gardening Australia and Kim Syrus, Outdoors Indoors Chanel 9 and learn how to grow your supper. Kids learn some great gardening tips along with identifying, planting and eating straight from the Taste Buds culinary garden.

Every child will receive a goody bag, edible plants and healthy snack.
