Teddy Bears’ Picnic | Adelaide Botanic Garden | Review

We had a bear-y good time at the Adelaide Botanic Garden for the Teddy Bears’ Picnic with the SA Police Band!

Review by Angelica-Hazel Toutounji

Last Saturday morning the sun was shining, the birds were chirping and countless Adelaide families filled up the Adelaide Botanic Garden for the annual Teddy Bears’ Picnic with a special performance by the SA Police Band.

Pulling into Plane Tree Drive, it was a lovely sight seeing so many families with picnic baskets, rugs in hand and little kids hugging teddy bears. Entering the big garden gates we walked past the rose garden, bypassed the conservatory and made our way to the conifer lawn. Upon arrival we found a nice grass area under a tree, set up a picnic rug and laid out our snack situation for the morning.

After munching through our provisions, we decided to get a closer look and listen to the SA Police Band. The musicians were set up in front of the Museum of Economic Botany looking smart in their navy uniforms. The band played light hearted well known tunes including our favourite Teddy Bears’ Picnic song!

After eating, running around and listening to the music we went to explore the Dahlia garden that was conveniently located right next door. This special little garden is looked after by the Dahlia Society of South Australia and is a seasonal offering. The garden is small in size but the beautiful bright blooms are well worth a visit and a great spot to capture happy snaps with children.

Alongside a lovely setting and great music, this event also included face painting which was very popular. The hour and a half event absolutely flew by because we were having so much fun. Not only was the Teddy Bears’ Picnic a really lovely event, it provided a great excuse to visit the garden. As we were leaving we could see many families making their way around the garden, grabbing coffees, sitting down for lunch and making the most of the Adelaide Botanic Garden.

So if you are looking for a lovely low cost family friendly activity, why not pack a picnic, your favourite stuffed toy friends and visit the Adelaide Botanic Garden! Also keep an eye out for future Teddy Bears’ Picnic events, they are a lovely day out enjoyed by young and old.
