2024 UPDATE: The Gardens Kiosk is now closed while it gets a much deserved renovation. It will reopen later in 2024 as The Botanic Lodge, an all-day diner under chef Tom Tilbury.
Evergreen Deli nearby is open 8:30am every day for coffee, food and drinks.
the Garden is aflutter once again with the news that Tom Tilbury (Gather, Aces, Press) is opening The Botanic Lodge, an all-day diner in the lakefront kiosk adjacent to Restaurant Botanic.
The Gardens Kiosk (Simpson Kiosk) is a favourite spot to take the kids for a light lunch, coffee and cake, or even a cheeky ice cream. The setting is beautiful, the coffee is good, the food is tasty and there is ample space for prams, groups and little kids that can’t sit still.

Outdoor and Undercover Dining
Offering outdoor and undercover dining, you can choose to sit underneath the giant leafy oak tree, beside the serene main lake or indoors with a touch of hipster vibes – think leather couches and velvet vintage chairs.
Please be aware that when dining near the lake it is not fully fenced so as always be vigilant with children around water.
Wildlife Spotting by the Lake
Kids will love that there are loads of ducks and other birds inhabiting the lake and on a lucky day you might spot some turtles having a swim like we did.
I like to visit when having a Botanic Garden day out with the kids and if we are visiting the SA Museum or Art Gallery we’ll also pop there for some lunch too, as it’s just a short walk away.
Classic Cafe Menu
Serving up classics such as gourmet sandwiches, toasties, freshly baked pastries, salads, burgers, fish & chips, cakes and ice creams, there’s something for everyone. The cafe is licensed so there’s even a beer and wine list, if you’d like to settle in for a long lunch amongst the beautiful surroundings.
From our experiences, the BBQ beef short rib toastie is delicious, as is the Ruben sandwich and sourdough chicken and avocado sandwich. The kids love a ham and cheese croissant, ice cream, milkshake or babycino. The cakes are always really lovely too.
We love The Gardens Kiosk for its stunning scenery, relaxed casual atmosphere and tasty menu. Highly recommended!
