Exploring Disney at The Grounds of Alexandria in Sydney, NSW.
The Grounds of Alexandria is one of our favourite places to visit when we’re in Sydney. It has the most amazing themed grounds to wander around, delicious food in their cafe and dining areas, exquisite patisserie, beautiful gardens, and even a petting pen with animals to pat.
During the school holidays they have special shows and workshops for the kids. For example this April 2023, there’s unicorns, bubbles and dinosaurs all featuring in their program.
Last time we were here in 2021 it was a gorgeous Marrakesh theme, but at the moment it’s a celebration of 100 years of Disney magic. This is on until the end of April 2023, until The Grounds unveil their next theme.
You can follow the decorated alleyways to journey through the last 100 years of Disney looking out for all your favourite Disney characters. Find everyone from Mickey, Minnie, Winnie the Pooh, to Olaf and The Genie. There’s plenty of opportunities to take photos all along the displays.
The food pics are of our lunch at The Potting Shed, which is like eating in a lush green garden oasis, obviously looked after by someone with a very green thumb (the opposite to me, who can’t even keep succulents alive).
Pictured is the Moreton Bay Bug Tortellini, Crumbed Chicken Tenderloins with Chips, Snapper Ceviche, Crab Croquette Slider. In the Cafe they have a patisserie with a variety of beautiful cakes.
We just had to try the special Disney mocktail pictured below.
It’s a really popular spot so make sure you book in a table before going if you can. If you can avoid going during the NSW school holidays it will be much less crowded. We visited recently on a Friday afternoon – not during school holidays – and it was not too crowded.
We recommend eating at the gorgeous Potting Shed and saying hello to their resident parrot who guards the entrance.
The Cafe is their indoor eating area which we dined in previously (pictured below). You’ll find a delicious array of cakes in the patisserie here. During busy times they don’t accept bookings so you may have to take your chances at getting a table.
Below are more pictures of the gorgeous Disney celebration displays and what you’ll see around the grounds. If you go in the evening these are all lit up.
Below is the Animal Pen where there are some animals you can pat.
The Grounds of Alexandria is always a must visit for us when in Sydney. A little tip – if you are coming from the airport and heading to the city, it’s on the way, so you could stop by here first. They have a space where they can kindly let you leave your luggage while dining. It’s about a 10 minute drive from the airport to The Grounds, and then it’s about a 15 minute drive to the Sydney CBD.
