We’re calling it: Adelaide needs its own pistachio festival, just like Sicily.
Move over Biscoff, Nutella, and salted caramel. South Australians have gone wild for pistachios, fuelled by the viral Dubai chocolate trend from the desert metropolis.
In case you didn’t know, ‘Dubai chocolate’ is a unique bar that’s a nod to the Middle Eastern dessert, knafeh, blending milk chocolate with pistachio cream, tahini, and crispy kataifi pastry.
Its layered textures and balance of sweet, nutty and savoury flavours—along with its vibrant green filling—have made it a social media sensation, inspiring countless cakes, pastries and desserts around the world and across South Australia.

Even local fashion label Serafina has embraced the trend, releasing a pistachio-hued clothing range.
Fun fact: the pistachio is actually the edible seed inside a fleshy fruit!
Here’s our go-to guide to Adelaide’s best pistachio-laced treats…
Dubai chocolate

First up, the Dubai chocolate itself, which has sparked a wave of food ASMR content online.
We found the Dubaco by Beyoğlu variety at Salam Supermarket & Butcher (550 Goodwood Road, Daw Park), priced around $20 a block (as at July 2025). The chocolate’s also available at Munch & Crunch (2 Wilkinson Road, Para Hills), where you’ll find Dubai chocolate acai too.

Meanwhile, the Naheda’s Choice brand of Dubai chocolate is stocked at The Turkish Delight Mediterranean Sweetery in the Adelaide Central Market.
Not pistachio-related, but both Salam and Munch & Crunch stock the TikTok-famous Propitious Mango ice cream, as well. (The treat’s shaped like a mango, with a white chocolate shell and a creamy mango-flavoured interior.)

Dubai chocolate croissants
What’s better than a Dubai chocolate bar or croissant? A mash-up of both.
You’ll find gooey-centred versions at J&D Cake Lab (41 Rundle Street, Kent Town).

J&D Cake Lab, Adelaide
As described on its website:
“The Pistachio with Dubai Chocolate lava croissant features a flaky, buttery crust filled with rich pistachio cream. As our most popular flavour, it offers a refined balance of creamy nuttiness and intense chocolate, crafted for those who appreciate sophisticated and indulgent pastries.”
Jenny’s Bakery has its own variety, but you’ll need to be quick. When we visited its Eastwood location (81 Glen Osmond Road) during the school holidays, they’d already sold out. It has a Norwood store too (166 The Parade).
Pistachio beverages
Jenny’s Bakery also offers pistachio matcha and pistachio lattes, and we even scored an off-menu pistachio hot chocolate. It was a brilliant blend of pistachio spread and rich chocolatey goodness.

Meanwhile, Tony & Mark’s serves up a Pistachio Papi hot chocolate at its Zeea’s Eatery cafes in Golden Grove, Torrensville, Glenunga, and Cavan. Think couverture milk chocolate buttons and Pistachio Papi spread, blended with your choice of milk … mmm!
And Lipson Cafe (117a Lipson St, Port Adelaide) does a lovely pistachio-strawberry-matcha drink.

Pistachio spreads
Tony & Mark’s is also a great place to pick up the cult-favourite Pistachio Papi spread, made with top-notch Italian pistachios. Available in smooth and crunchy varieties, the spread’s now widely stocked elsewhere too, including at Woolworths.

Pistachio Papi co-founder Mark Abdelmalik even teamed up with Krispy Kreme to create a Pistachio Overload Doughnut, which sold out almost instantly. Papi is the official pistachio spread of MasterChef too.
The St Gerry’s pistachio spread is available at Tony & Mark’s, as well.

Other pistachio lovers rate the Pisti Spreadable Pistachio Cream, made with a generous 45 per cent pistachios, compared to Pistachio Papi’s 16 per cent.
We found it at Salam Supermarket & Butcher in Daw Park and at Costco (404–406 Churchill Road, Kilburn), and can confirm it’s packed with flavour. The hazelnut version also deserves a chef’s kiss!
Pistachio-loaded cookies
A Choc Chip Dubai Viral cookie is on the menu at Adelaide online store Cookie Luxe. As the website puts it: “Experience the perfect blend of Middle Eastern ingredients in every bite.”

On its site, you’ll also find Dubai crunch jars, Dubai brownie stacks, pistachio-filled croissants, Dubai chocolate, and a Dubai luxe box featuring a selection of goodies.
As well, we spotted a pistachio-loaded cookie in the wild at Pinco Deli (73 Glen Osmond Road, Eastwood).

PS. Craving something savoury? Try Pinco’s salami sandwich with whipped ricotta, fermented chilli honey – and crushed pistachios! (Find Pinco at 96 Gilles Street in the city too.)

Pistachio frozen treats
You can’t write a pistachio guide without mentioning gelati. 48 Flavours has an award-winning version available at its outlets in Hyde Park, Trinity Gardens, Henley Beach, Fulham Gardens, Paralowie, and the city.
Elsewhere, Bottega Gelateria has a Robinvale Pistachio flavour, with pistachios sourced direct from a farmer in Victoria’s Robinvale. Visit the ice creamery at Henley Beach, Glenelg or Prospect.

Meanwhile, Anto’s Deli (1/503 Goodwood Rd, Colonel Light Gardens) has an icy pistachio crema, above (along with a pistachio matcha drink).
Yo-Chi also offered a warm Pistachio Papi topping on its frozen yoghurt for a limited time locally, and we’re eagerly awaiting its return. Plus, Pistachio Papi now has its very own gelato flavour, available at Coles, featuring caramelised pistachios, a pistachio spread ripple, and a hard shell topping.
Pistachio cannoli
Move over Snickers and Caramilk. Pistachio is the standout flavour for cannoli at Fine Food Cucina (5 Meredith Street, Newton), where crisp pastry tubes are filled with green sweetened ricotta cream.

Middle Eastern pistachio desserts
Pistachios, naturally, feature prominently in traditional Middle Eastern sweets like baklava and Turkish delight.
You’ll find such goodies at Almina’s Kitchen (394 Main North Road, Blair Athol) and The Turkish Delight Mediterranean Sweetery, located at the Adelaide Central Market and on Rundle Street.
We also spotted a range of pistachio treats at Salam Supermarket & Butcher in Daw Park.
No need to turn pistachio-green with envy – just satisfy your sweet tooth and get in on the craze!
