Toasting Marshmallows at Illuminate Adelaide’s Light Cycles Bar

Here’s a fun idea to do with the kids at Light Cycles – take marshmallows and wooden skewers and toast them on the fires around the Light Cycles Bar at the Adelaide Botanic Garden.

If you don’t usually go camping then this is a fab way for your kids to experience the joy of toasting marshmallows without the hassle of starting and tending a fire yourself. If you do go camping your kids will love this city version. I mean who doesn’t love toasting marshmallows??!

Please be careful – fires are not to be played with and your kids must be able to listen to instructions and do this safely. Have a safety talk first. Make sure you are standing away from the direction of the smoke.

Rug up because it’s cold outside, but don’t wear anything highly flammable and be aware that you may smell smokey afterwards (in your clothes and hair).

There are several fires set up both in front and behind the Light Cycles Bar on Frome Road and there’s even chairs to sit around them. You can buy food and drinks from the stalls inside. The huge marquee is beautifully lit up with fairy lights.

Luminous Fairy Floss

For a special treat you can buy light up fairy floss which is the bomb! The light stick flashes with rainbow colours surrounded by fairy floss. Once you’ve finished eating the fairy floss you have the flashing light stick which is actually quite handy for being able to see your child while walking through Light Cycles. You’ll find the stall inside the Light Cycles Bar.

It is free to go to the Light Cycles Bar and the fires around it so even if you are not going to see Light Cycles you can still go and toast marshmallows here. We’d suggest not going at peak times like weekends to be able to get a spot.

For City Lights last year there were also fires along Rundle Street so if they are there this year you can use the fires along there too.

The Light Cycles bar is located a stone’s throw from some of Illuminate Adelaide’s most exciting attractions – including Light Cycles at the Adelaide Botanic Garden, to Light Creatures at Adelaide Zoo and City Lights’ northern trail.
