Urrbrae Barn Market | Netherby | Review

The secret’s out. This farmers’ market has everything you need right on your doorstep – seasonal produce, plants, arts and crafts, and feel-good vibes. It also gives you the chance to support an agricultural high school in suburban Adelaide.

Review by Carla Caruso

You know those places you drive past so many times, vowing that one day you’ll stop and check them out, but somehow never get around to it?

That was the Urrbrae Barn Market for me. I’d driven past its sign outside Urrbrae Agricultural High on Cross Road countless times and kept promising myself I’d visit, only to forget about it as soon as I continued on my way.

It took one of my 13-year-old sons becoming interested in selling vintage streetwear for me to finally get there. Booking a stall without ever having visited the market was probably a little back to front, but we took our chances. And at $20 per stall (as at August 2026), it’s very affordable compared to some other markets and rent-a-rack places.

Private stallholders sell a variety of goods alongside Urrbrae High staff and students, who sell produce grown on the school’s fully operational farm. The market is run by the School Council and a group of dedicated parents, and is held in the school’s car park.

The market runs on the first Saturday of most months from February to December, 9am to midday, with a break during Showtime.

We can’t believe we waited so long to visit. It felt like discovering a hidden gem. Although the secret is clearly out among some locals, with queues forming for baked goods and produce such as free-range eggs, chicken, lamb sausages, olive oil, olives, wine and jam.

We couldn’t resist the tempting fare either, coming away with cinnamon scrolls, sourdough bread, vegetables and twiggy sticks.

Others pop in for a coffee, muffin or BBQ sausage cooked by the School Council. (We treated ourselves, thanks to the Council, too.)

You can even join a school farm tour while you’re there, which we’re planning to do next time. Students also provide live music on-site to add to the good vibes.

We’re definitely going to become regulars, despite it taking us so long to get the market in the first place. It might sound clichéd, but it really is like a little slice of the country in the city.

What we like about it:

  • Feel-good community vibe
  • Easy parking
  • Easy market stall-holder experience
  • Farm-fresh produce on your doorstep, plus tasty weekend treats and a great mix of arts, crafts and local goods to browse

Things to note:

  • Some of the produce sold at the Barn Market is also available through the school canteen via its Farm Shop.
  • The 20-minute farm tours run every half hour during the market, with the first departing at 9.30am and the last at 11.30am.
  • The market is outdoors, so it’s subject to the elements.
  • Check the market’s calendar for upcoming dates.
