Velo Precinct Review

The Velo Precinct Review

“On ya bike” Lycra optional at The Velo Precinct!

Am I dreaming? From where I am sitting, all three children ranging in age from five to 12 are happily playing outside, the sun is shining and the birds are singing. I am drinking a coffee, eating a glorious bowl of colourful granola, without the normal chants I hear of “Hurry up, Mum, I am bored I want to go home!” …”Why do you drink coffee all the time?”…..

“Where is this dream scenario taking place?” I hear you ask……? The Velo Precinct!

Come rain, hail or sunshine, Velo is a casual, family friendly place to relax. Situated at Victoria Park in the heritage listed grandstand, Velo has been open since 2015.

Bring the kids, friends and pet dog. Grab your bikes, scooters, roller skates, frisbee and footy. Velo will provide the coffees (the kids will be so busy playing you may even get time for two coffees!), breakfasts and cakes.

With indoor seating and outdoor seating overlooking the beautifully re-landscaped Victoria Park and its playing fields, no child will be bored here. If the time is right you can watch remote controlled aeroplanes, ultimate frisbee and solar car racing. Cycling safely around the track with no agro drivers to get in your way is a huge drawcard.

“Mum let’s do the Hokey Pokey“, I hear my daughter singing.

Oh damn! I want a coffee – not to do the Hokey Pokey.

That’s where the Velo’s indoor play cafe steps in. The ‘Spokey Dokey’ helps me return to my caffeine hit whilst entertaining little ones inside. They even cater for birthday parties.

Entry Price for the Play Cafe (as of August 2016):

  • $2 Adult with baby
  • $5 per child

Guest Post by Emma Parkinson of Adelaide Boutique Online Facebook page

This review was written and photographed by Emma Parkinson of Adelaide Boutique Online. Meet Emma …. Child wrangling mother of three, with an albeit mundane background in health/finance and recruitment. The three c’s in her life (her 3 children) has led her to treasure three other c’s……coffee, culture and champagne. Not necessarily in that order! A need for escapism from the daily routine of marriage and motherhood led Emma to explore. Whether it be new exciting cafes, restaurants, shops, galleries, markets, playgrounds, children’s activities, accommodation, farmgates; Emma loves to track them down and discover ‘Boutique Adelaide’. Welcome to part of her journey. Enjoy the ride …..or should I say read.

Shame they aren’t open later in the day. We went there on the weekend and the kids had an absolute blast!
