Waterworld Aquatic Centre Adelaide to get $5.5 Million Water Playground with SA’s Largest Tipping Bucket
Waterworld Aquatic Centre in Ridgehaven is getting a massive $5.5 million upgrade, with an exciting new aquatic playground featuring South Australia’s largest tipping bucket, five colourful waterslides and plenty of interactive water play for kids.
Families across Adelaide will have even more reasons to visit Waterworld, with the City of Tea Tree Gully announcing plans for one of the biggest upgrades to the popular outdoor swimming centre since it first opened in 1969.
The new aquatic playground will feature a towering 9.5-metre water play structure, complete with five kaleidoscopic slides, water cannons, waterfalls and a huge 900-litre tipping bucket that will send water cascading over excited visitors below.

Designed especially with families and children in mind, the new attraction promises plenty of opportunities to splash, slide and cool off during Adelaide’s hot summer months.
The new $5.5 million aquatic playground will include:
- South Australia’s largest tipping bucket – a massive 900-litre bucket that tips water onto the play area below.
- Five kaleidoscopic waterslides – colourful slides built into a 9.5-metre-high play tower.
- Interactive water cannons – for plenty of splash-filled fun.
- Waterfalls and water play features – creating an immersive aquatic playground for children to explore.
- More family-friendly water play – expanding the attractions available for children, particularly those aged 5 to 12 years.
The new playground will complement Waterworld’s existing attractions, giving families even more to enjoy during a day out.
Located in Ridgehaven in Adelaide’s north-eastern suburbs, Waterworld Aquatic Centre has been a favourite summer destination for generations of South Australian families.
The outdoor aquatic centre currently features three swimming pools, three waterslides, a junior splash pad and the popular Aqua Run inflatable obstacle course.
With a mix of swimming, slides and splash play, Waterworld is a great option for families looking for somewhere to cool off and enjoy an active day outdoors.
The new aquatic playground will add another exciting dimension to the centre, particularly for primary school-aged children who love interactive water play.
The redevelopment follows extensive community consultation, with families identifying more water play, children’s attractions and recreational opportunities for 5 to 12-year-olds as priorities for Waterworld’s future.
When Will Waterworld’s New Aquatic Playground Open?
The new Waterworld aquatic playground is expected to be ready for the 2027/28 summer season.
Major construction works are scheduled to begin during Waterworld’s off-season, allowing the centre to continue operating as usual throughout the current 2026/27 summer season.
Families can still visit Waterworld for swimming, waterslides and splash play, with regular bookings and walk-ins continuing as normal.
